This family needs help. They have a very high deductible insurance (13K) that they have the privilege (ha) of paying $1300 a month for. Their medical bills are mounting, as well as hotel and food bills. Insurance won't even pay more than 100 miles in transportation, even though it was medically necessary.
What happened? Someone fell off the porch. That's all that stands between you and medical disaster, apparently. :( Michael developed severe pneumonia after slipping on black ice and breaking four ribs. He was put on a breathing machine and airlifted to the University of Michigan hospital, four hours away from his immediate family. He spent 8 days on the breathing machine and 2 weeks in the ICU.
Just after being put on a regular ward, he experienced respiratory distress once again and was transferred back to the ICU. His heart stopped twice when they intubated him. His blood pressure dropped to 40/20. The doctors were asking his wife, Dawn, to sign a DNR at that point. But Michael is a fighter. He came off the breathing machine again with all of his faculties!
But on top the pneumonia, he's experienced a heart malfunction (afibrillation), a mysterious bleed (six blood transfusions so far) had at least 6 CAT scans, countless xrays... needless to say, the medical bills are mounting. His wife and two teenage children spent two weeks by his side. After driving home, they came back again when his heart stopped, spending another 5 days with him.
He's been in the hospital for 5 weeks. He's lost a great deal of strength and muscle tone in that time and will likely have to go to a rehabilitation center after he's released from the hospital. Insurance won't pay all of that either.
Their family is facing a long road to recovery and a giant heap of medical bills. So many have been praying for Michael and his family. Any little bit you could donate to help them would be so appreciated!
