Growing Hannoun Sourdough & Giving Back, One Loaf at a Time
With the incredible support of this community, Hannoun Sourdough took its first big step forward this past year. Thanks to more than 70 backers of our first crowdfunding campaign, I was able to purchase essential equipment that kept the bakery alive through the fall.
Now it's time for the next step up.
Why This Crowdsourcing Campaign Matters
Running a micro-bakery has been on of the most rewarding work I've done in my lifetime--helping people access wellness by experiencing long-fermented goods...well, it's just priceless.
But the physical labor also takes a physical toll on my body.
Right now, making just 100 dough balls for English muffins, also affectionately known as fluffins, takes me more than 4 hours of repetitive handwork—work that has already led to tennis elbow and carpal tunnel. The pain and muscular fatigue limits my ability to provide my community consistently.
And as a small business owner, consistency is key to business success.
And in order to meet customer demand for buns, naan, pizza crusts, and English muffins, I need to outsource the labor of making dough balls to a machine!
Giving Back Through Bread
This campaign isn’t just about growth for Hannoun Sourdough—it’s also supporting Hannoun in its mission of giving back. I dedicate a portion of all my sales to go towards helping folks who need the support to access food that doesn't make them ill.
This campaign will do the same! Super deeply humbled to partner with the Jeremiah Program, whose mission is to disrupt the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children, two generations at a time. When mothers invest in their own goals while supporting their children’s education, they can re-author their family’s outcomes and act as change agents in their communities.
For every $100 raised, I will donate one loaf of bread to Jeremiah Program families, helping ensure that nourishing, long-fermented bread reaches households where it matters most.
That's 60 loaves of bread nourishing 60 families!
Sustaining Hannoun
The centerpiece of this fundraiser is the Sunmix Moon Dough Rounder ($5,000), a specialized piece of equipment that can shape 100 dough balls in just 30 minutes.
That's 3.5 hours of labor saved. Which means I could actually start offering naans and buns as well!
Cherry on top is that it is designed to fit in my teeny, tiny 80sq ft bakery space, taking up only a small amount of floor space!
By reducing strain on my body, it will allow me to scale production while protecting my long-term health.
Along with the dough rounder, I’ll also invest in:
English Muffin Rings kit– essential for scaling proofing and baking production
⏱ Timers, thermometers & tools – for precision and consistency
❄️ Pneumatic Compression Device – to manage muscle fatigue and circulation to recover from being on my feet for long hours
Together, these tools will make Hannoun Sourdough more sustainable, more efficient, and more capable of meeting community demand.
