James Monroe Elementary School Fund

On Saturday, March 22, 2014, James Monroe Elementary School was completely destroyed as the result of a six-alarm fire that quickly engulfed the building and burned it to the ground. The K-5 school, located in a quiet section of bustling Edison, New Jersey, was celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and the fire has left the entire community in a state of shock.

Fortunately, nobody was in the building at the time of the fire, but it has left in its wake more than $20 million in damages.  Students, teachers, and staff members lost everything in the blaze and are now going going to have to be relocated for the remainder of the school year, if not longer.

The damage was so severe that it appears nothing can be salvaged, so this fundraiser was put together by John Adams Middle School's Community Service Club to purchase gift cards for the 50 teachers of James Monroe Elementary School who lost everything in the fire. We want to help make the students and their teachers feel more at home (or "at school") while in their temporrary classrooms at Middlesex County College, and since teachers often spend a great deal of their own money on various classroom supplies and other items that aid in their students' learning, the gift cards (which will be for a teacher supply store) will allow those teachers to begin rebuilding their fire-ravaged classrooms for their students one supply at a time.

Please help the James Monroe community by donating anything you can.  Our goal is to provide each teacher with at least a $50 gift card, so every little bit helps!  Through this fundraiser, we hope to show the teachers and the entire James Monroe community that we care, we stand alongside them, and we are here to support them in any way possible.
