Bob is a loving husband and father of 2 boys, always putting others before himself. Sadly, in March of 2012 a large, cancerous tumor was discovered in his abdomen and so began the fight for his life. Since that day, he has undergone numerous treatments including radiation, chemotherapy and many surgeries. Although these treatments have allowed him to enjoy more time with his family, they have ravaged his body, taking his bladder, prostate, and a portion of his colon. In addition, he has lost most of the use of his legs due to nerve damage. Recently, we’ve come to find that the cancer has spread to his bones leaving him bed bound an unable to manage daily living on his own.
Since early October, Bob has been hospitalized fighting infection. At this point in time, he is being prepared for discharge from the hospital. He will likely be moved to a transitional care/skilled nursing facility. Unfortunately insurance will only cover the first 20 days in a skilled nursing facility. Then, days 21-100 come with a co-pay of $170+/- per day. Days 101 and on, he will charged 100% of the cost.
Additionally, he may eventually be able to move to his mother’s home where he will need of round the clock care which is also not covered by insurance and very costly. Although family can be available to provide some of the care he needs, they will need additional support from a professional healthcare aide which will cost approximately $200 per day on average (approx. $20 per hour @ 10 hours a day) or $6,000 per month.
All told, to provide the care Bob so desperately needs and deserves, we are asking for your help. Without really knowing how much care will ultimately be needed, we are starting out with a goal of $30,000 as he continues to fight this ugly disease.
Please join me in this fundraising effort to help our friend and family member live out the rest of his life in comfort, surrounded by family and those he loves.
