Help Blue Light Camp battle Youth Mental Health

Tax deductible
The Victorian Blue Light Camp (VBLYC) is a not-for-profit charity providing opportunities for youth and communities through a range of meaningful ‘camp-based’ programs that foster personal development, learning, leadership, and trust. With a reputation throughout the State of Victoria as one of the leading School Camp providers, we have welcomed thousands of young people to our camp every year for over 30 years.

Like many individuals and organisations in our Victorian community, VBLYC has been significantly impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic. Sadly, we are faced with the real threat that, without help, we will not be able to continue the legacy of support and opportunity to young people that VBLYC has built over 30 years!

We need everyone’s help to save our iconic camp before we are forced to close our doors for good.

We all have fond memories of our youth camps; making new lifelong friends, trying things we never thought we could do, leaving standing taller with a sense of achievement and more confidence, not to mention the Food!

Youth Camps offer so much opportunity for growth and development but are also just plain fun!

For 30 years we have had a proud history of creating these memories for young people throughout Victoria!

With the unique ability to run Bike Road Safety programs VBLYC has taught thousands of young people over the years vital skills for safe riding as well as building the confidence to keep on riding. We hope that many students have left us and taken those learnings home and continued to ride on! to school or with family and friends.

We love riding and hope to be able to continue to encourage and help more young people to feel confident to get on bikes, but a key focus of our camp has been to utilise the camp resources to provide specialised programs and opportunities to vulnerable and marginalised Youth and Communities. For 30 years we have supported youth at risk and provided opportunities that foster growth, wellbeing, and alternative pathways.  We have welcomed people with Disabilities and their families; supporting respite, opportunities to try things not always available, as well as build connections and support networks.

Whether a school, youth, community, disability, or refugee group, VBLYC’s aim has always been to provide programs and opportunities to not only gain invaluable skills but more importantly build individual growth and resilience, self-efficacy, and connections. At the core of this all, is improving wellbeing and mental health through a range of meaningful and inspiring camp-based, outdoor experience programs.

Now more than ever young people need the opportunities that camps and programs like ours can provide to help overcome the impacts that the last 2 years have had on their health and wellbeing.

The recent Coping with COVID report, compiled by headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, found that 74% of young people surveyed reported their mental health was worse since the outbreak of COVID-19. Being named the shadow pandemic by youth mental health professionals, this is increasingly becoming a significant health issue for Victorian Youth.

While we are passionate and dedicated to continuing to deliver programs to support young people, we can’t do it without the support of our community! We need your help to keep our doors open, our camps running and programs available to support young people.

We know that this is a difficult time for most of us, but every dollar counts and every donation big or small will have a huge impact and the ability to transform the lives of young people as we support each other to recover from this pandemic.

If you can’t donate right now you can still help and have an impact! Please share this GoFundMe far and wide.

If you or your organisation have ideas of other ways you can support this project, please get in touch with us.
