Help Father Recover & Pay Rent After ICE-Related Injury

Hi, my name is Carmen. I’m speaking out on behalf of my family and my husband, Amilcar —a kind, hardworking man who recently experienced a terrifying and traumatic injustice.
On a regular day in San Fernando, CA, Amilcar went to Home Depot looking for day labor work, as he had done many times before, to support his family. He wasn’t doing anything wrong — just standing, waiting, hoping to earn an honest wage.
Instead, he found fear.
An ICE agent detained him without cause, scraping his chest and bruising his body. In terror — for his safety and our family — Amilcar tried to escape. He climbed a nearby wall, but fell from the top and fractured his ankle. Alone and in excruciating pain, he crawled to a store and called for help.
Now, my husband can’t walk, work, or even move without agony. The man who once carried our whole family now lies in bed, unable to carry himself. We have two children, 17 and 14, who are witnessing their father suffer — and we’re left asking, why would anyone do this to an innocent man just trying to survive?
We are devastated. I’m trying to stay strong, but I am exhausted, overwhelmed, and heartbroken.
