Before Hurricane Dorian started to affect the South Carolina coastline, Bethany Hastings, a pregnant Labor & Delivery nurse at Summerville Medical Center evacuated to where she grew up, Salisbury, Maryland. Bethany’s husband, Coleman, a Summerville firefighter stayed behind to handle the wrath of Hurricane Dorian.
Since Bethany was pregnant, and had a toddler to tend to while evacuating to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, her mom flew down to Charleston to escort her out of the danger zone.
During their drive, Bethany’s series of unfortunate events was just beginning — Bethany’s car broke down between Summerville and Salisbury. Luckily, since her mom was with her, they were able to get a rental car, and their journey continued. Her car was towed to Salisbury the next day.
Unfortunately, Bethany’s bad luck was just beginning. Yesterday, September 8, Bethany’s water broke; she’s only in her 28th week of pregnancy. After being stabilized at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, she was airlifted by helicopter to John Hopkins in Baltimore.
At this point in time, Coleman, Bethany’s husband, has had to take a break as a Summerville fireman, and will be staying in Baltimore for the duration. Also, Bethany will obviously be unable to work. Bethany is on bedrest, and doctors are working to delay delivery. The little family wants to make sure they’ll still have a house to take baby boy Bayles home to. It goes without saying that the bills will keep coming, irregardless of their current situation.
This fundraiser was created so the couple can focus on staying stress-free, and focus on mama’s health, and wellbeing. All I ask is that you donate what you can. Bethany has dedicated her adult life to being a labor and delivery nurse, and Coleman is a dedicated firefighter. This couple has been there for others during their time of need, and now, unfortunately, it’s their time — let’s help them.
The person raising these funds for Bethany Hastings & family is R. Ryan Stevenson. Ryan is Bethany’s cousin. Funds raised will be used to allow Bethany to pay bills while the family is staying in the hospital in Baltimore. Bethany is linked to this account, and is the only person who can access the funds raised.
