Hi, my name is Stephanie. I live in British Columbia, Canada and the co-organizer is Cloe who lives in Australia. This past year, I have gotten to know Ali through frequent conversations with him and those who know him. Before this war began, Ali played wheelchair basketball for Palestine, loved to volunteer and work with children, and was (and continues to be) a vocal advocate for the disabled population. He also helps care for his disabled sister, who is blind, and both elderly parents, who are also in wheelchairs.
More of his story can be seen here and he is available to chat with directly at: https://www.instagram.com/ali.jebril?igsh=bXNiZ2Z4OWo5d3Rw.
This page was originally started to help Ali buy a new wheelchair, which we successfully did - thank you all so much for support this. Unfortunately, the borders have remained closed to the shipment of his wheelchair and any humanitarian aid. We are all praying that this will change soon.
Ali and his 10 family members have survived nearby bombings because there is nowhere safe in Gaza and "safe zones" change at a moment's notice. They have been displaced again and again, and forced to live on the streets. They continue to try to survive now in a tent amongst the rubble in unimaginable living conditions.
They are needing URGENT help for basic human needs like food, medicine, and basic hygiene and incontinence products. For example right now, a pack of 10 adult incontinence briefs cost $60USD and a bag of flour costs over $200USD. Ali is also getting an urgent surgery on May 22 and will need some financial help with medication.
All the funds that have been collected after the purchase of his wheelchair have gone directly to Ali and his family through PayPal and international bank transfers.
A beautiful moment amongst all the despair: Ali is recently engaged!! He and his fiancee are dreaming of their future together, free and safe. Please pray for their health and safety.
Thank you for your time and generosity,
Steph, Cloe and Ali
