Keep the Christian bookstore alive!
As most of you have heard, Lifeway Christian Bookstores will be closing all of their stores by the end of the year. This will leave the valley without a Christian bookstore. This is a loss to our community.
Although online ordering is the new trend there are several things that cannot be replaced.
The physical presence of store in the community is invaluable. God has put it on my heart to open a Christian bookstore in the east valley. My desire is for this store to be a place to serve the community, the Church and a place to help others in their spiritual walk.
My name is Sam Medar and many of you have come to know me from my years working at Berean, Family Christian and Lifeway. I have worked Christian retail for 20 years. I have a beautiful wife-Bioleta and two wonderful sons- Samuel and Jayden.
Some of the vision for this store includes: Bible study classes, host Bible studies and groups,
study/conference area, prayer area. It would also be my intention to host special events such as Kids Day story time, CD and book signings. Other services include Bible imprinting, prison mailings, discount programs, Church drop-offs, VBS workshops, and coffee and reading section.
My goal is to start up by the end of the year and I will need a lot of help from the community, friends and family.
It will take around $120,000 to start up the bookstore. The following is a breakdown
of some things that need to be accomplished before August:
1. Pick a location (Mesa, Gilbert, and Chandler)
2. Choose a store name and register name $50
2. Purchase a domain and build a website $2,000
3. Officially register business- $200
4. Register for business taxes
5. Obtain permits and license $200
6. Insurance $400 to $600
7. Sign a lease $3,000 to $7,000 a month
8. Furnishing, painting, building displays $10,000 to $20,000
9. Register system $5,000 to $10,000
10. Advertising $3,000 to $5,000
11. Inventory $60,000
I pray that God will put it on your heart to donate. Every dollar counts even if it just a little and help jump start this ministry to our community.
