Lexington, Ky Heart Transplant man in dire need

Hi, my name is Virginia, Melody’s mother. She’s married to Doug Hudson, he just had a heart transplant on 12/22/22 & remains in the hospital at this time. Doug hasn’t worked for nearly 10 years due to his heart issues & previous heart surgeries.

Doug’s wife Melody is a nurse and recently developed lymphedema, which is abnormal swelling of the legs & then she developed an open wound from an accident. Then recently became sick from massive infection from the wound causing blood poisoning (sepsis). She spent 2 weeks in the ICU, she had also taken a fall & sustained multiple rib fractures which led to her needing a chest tube. About the time she got out of the hospital, Doug had to go in for some tests per the Transplant Center’s request. However, Doug became very sick very quickly with his heart.- he actually collapsed @ home- He went back into the hospital- University of Ky. & they found that his heart was barely functioning. He was moved up the transplant list to #2. He got his new heart. In addition to above, they are the parents of an adult autistic son, he’s high functioning & he lives at home with them. But he requires adult supervision at all times, so his family is left no with income & the bills are piling up- medical, homeowners cost,utility bills and attempting to get assistance from the state is a long process & still not received any help. Their vehicle no longer runs and they are currently unable to replace it. Doug remains hospitalized and there will be updates later. It has been extremely hard for them during the holidays yet we are thankful for the greatest gifts of all, the gifts that God gave them.
