This November, my dog Chikky and I are walking 100 miles to support the American Cancer Society’s mission of creating a world without cancer.

This cause is deeply personal to me. I lost my grandmother to breast cancer several years ago, and her strength, grace, and resilience continue to inspire me every day. She faced her diagnosis without the kind of testing, treatment, or support that organizations like the American Cancer Society make possible today. She had to navigate her battle largely on her own, serving as a reminder of how uneven access to care remains, and how much more work we still have to do.

In my advocacy work, I’ve met many women who share that same uncertainty about their family history of cancer. Helping them gain access to BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing has shown me just how powerful knowledge can be, and how early detection can change the course of a life. It’s a daily reminder of why awareness, advocacy, and equity matter so deeply.

Funds raised through this walk will help the American Cancer Society continue their vital work: advancing groundbreaking cancer research, providing free support programs for patients and families, and ensuring that no one faces cancer alone.
