Help Ian & Family With Ian's Liver Transplant

Donation protected

Introduction

Hi, Jenna here, Ian’s sister. My brother Ian (seen above) needs a new Liver and I want to do everything I can to help him and my family. To do that I ask for you, the reader, to help me help Ian. My brother is an incredible big bro, amazing friend, and loving son.

What Happened?

One year ago my brother went to the ER with what turned out to be liver failure. In the beginning, the doctor expected him to make a full recovery due to his youth, but unfortunately that did not happen. Instead he has end stage liver failure which is a terminal diagnosis. The only hope for him is a liver transplant. He has been undergoing rigorous testing in order to be reviewed to go on the Liver Transplant List. At the same time of his liver failure, he was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, which is a debilitating and disabling autoimmune disease that is a lifelong condition. It causes a great deal of pain and slowly fuses spinal bone and other hard tissues together over time. He is only 36 years old.

Why We Need Your Help

This medical emergency was an unexpected event that happened during the beginning of the pandemic. Although he now has health insurance, it is not enough. I myself spent most the year working only part time to support myself and my partner who was unemployed for most of 2020-2021. My brother is currently living with my retired parents in Colorado where they are doing their best to keep up with the emotional and financial cost of this devastating situation.

How The Money Will Be Spent

The money will go to my family and first and foremost be used to pay Ian's past and future medical bills, buy him a hospital bed, and a zero gravity lift chair. If he is approved on this current list the Hospital requires the transplant recipient to live for 3 months within one hour of the hospital. The money will also be used for travel and hotel expenses for him and the family relating to the transplant. Although we will be reimbursed for a certain amount, we will need money up front in order to rent a furnished apartment by the hospital. I plan to live part time in Colorado as needed to support my family after the surgery and will need funds to take care of my bills while I am away. If for some reason this Liver Transplant list doesn’t approve him, we plan to find an alternative which will require more out of pocket expenses and possible travel to another state. We are not sure when his case will be reviewed again for this current list and we hope to know more soon. Lastly the money will be used to help Ian and my family with any other needs during this difficult time, and hopefully even a bucket list item!

How Can You Help?

Donating even $1 will help my family immeasurably. I understand since the pandemic started times have been difficult, so if you can’t donate that’s ok and if you can share my GoFundMe it would mean the world to us!

Thank You! <3

Thank you so much for taking the time to read, it is one of the hardest things in the world to ask for help so again, thank you.
