Help for Deb

Hi! I'm Amy. I am fundraising for my best friend of over 30 years and her 13 yr old son. I have been avoiding doing this but believe now is a good time. As a lot of you know Deb has been dealing with liver issues for a while now. It has been getting worse. During the summer she was hospitalized for 38 days. She just seems to not be able to catch a break. She is currently in the hospital. She had blood work that was not good and her doctor wanted her to be admitted to the hospital. While there she almost went into a hypoglycemic shock when her blood sugar dropped to 23. Her kidneys are not doing great and she has had blood transfusions which has caused iron overload. It just seems to be one thing after another for this poor girl. The ultimate goal is to get her a liver transplant. Right now she is at St Joseph Mercy Hospital. Her hepatology team at U of M wants her to be moved over there. So that is being worked on right now to get her over there. We are hoping because she was initially denied to be put on the transplant list at U of M that they may reconsider. I think her 13 yr old son Ryan is in denial about how bad she is. It affects him more than he realizes! Deb and I are self-employed with a cleaning business. She has not been able to physically work for some time and I have been trying to do it all myself. Which has been difficult and I have had to take some time off to get her to appointments or help take care of her and her son. So that translates into Financial hardships on all of us. Not to mention the emotional toll of what's going on and medical bills. If/when she can get a liver transplant money will be used for her care after surgery.
