Hi, my name is Angelo, I’m 26 years old, and I’ve just started the most wonderful job in the world: I became a teacher!

I’m writing on a personal note to tell you about a project that isn’t mine, but belongs to a colleague of mine, and that I believe deserves more attention.

I’ll skip the technical details, which aren’t my area, and go straight to the point: what matters most to me.

The project is called Touching the Sky and involves the launch of a stratospheric balloon. It’s a technical undertaking, of course, putting students in charge of designing instruments, sensors, and real solutions. But it is also, and above all, an opportunity for international cooperation and connection.

Three schools are involved:

I.I.S. Ciampini–Boccardo in Novi Ligure, Italy, Wallace High School in Stirling, Scotland, and a third group that, to me, represents the most significant part of the project.

These are some Afghan girls, whose right to education—as we know—is currently denied. Their contribution will not be just technical, but deeply symbolic: texts, poems, drawings, music, messages. Fragments of thought and creativity that will be stored in the balloon’s memory and carried with it all the way to the stratosphere.

And if here on Earth there are still those who would keep these girls silent, invisible, or submissive, in the sky their ideas will be free to fly.

Touching the Sky is this:

a scientific project, yes, but also a gesture of shared freedom.

It doesn’t take much to launch the project. Unfortunately, attempts to find partners so far have failed. Please help however you can, even with a small contribution.

Ciao, mi chiamo Angelo, ho 26 anni ed ho da poco iniziato il lavoro più bello del mondo: sono diventato insegnante!

Scrivo a titolo personale per raccontarvi un progetto che non è mio, ma di un mio collega, e che credo meriti di avere più voce.

Sorvolerò sui tecnicismi, che non mi competono, per andare dritto al punto: ciò che mi sta più a cuore.

Il progetto si chiama Touching the Sky e prevede il lancio di un pallone stratosferico. È un’impresa tecnica, certo, che mette in gioco studenti chiamati a progettare strumenti, sensori e soluzioni reali. Ma è anche, e soprattutto, un’occasione di cooperazione e relazione internazionale.

Le scuole coinvolte sono tre:

l’I.I.S. Ciampini–Boccardo di Novi Ligure, la Wallace High School di Stirling, in Scozia, e un’ultima realtà che rappresenta la parte più significativa del progetto.

Si tratta di alcune ragazze afghane, il cui diritto allo studio — come sappiamo — oggi è negato. Il loro contributo non sarà solo tecnico, ma profondamente simbolico: testi, poesie, disegni, musica, messaggi. Frammenti di pensiero e di creatività che verranno caricati nella memoria del pallone e portati con lui fino alla stratosfera.

E se qui sulla Terra c’è ancora chi vorrebbe quelle ragazze silenziose, invisibili o sottomesse, nel cielo le loro idee saranno libere di volare.

Touching the Sky è questo:

un progetto scientifico, sì, ma anche un gesto di libertà condivisa.

Per lanciare il progetto non serve molto. Purtroppo, i tentativi di trovare partner sono finora falliti. Ti prego, aiuta come puoi, anche con poco.
