Hi I am Hosea Johnson, I am a photographer and I teach photography to youth in New York City. My first teaching job was at a high school in Co Op City. I was brought in to teach autistic kids photography. They were amazing students, who not only learned how to use the cameras. They also conceptualized the request, "Show me what you like" and they produced a deep, meaningful collection of work. My theme for that class was "Finding Beauty in your Environment". And that theme is always in the back of my head when I teach youth how to take pictures. I have shared my approach to photography happily to kids in Harlem and the Bronx from 2nd graders to high school students for ten years and it never gets old. So now, my fellow teacher of the arts and friend Shola, started a organization (http://www.theur4africaproject.org/) that arranges teaching exchanges in her hometown in Nigeria with professional artist like myself from the States. And the ideal is for us to learn from each other and teach each other and raise capable people for the future, and that is very valuable. So valuable that I a simple dude from Harlem is about to take a risk by taking a month off from three part time jobs, with a bag full of diabetic supplies, and travel to a place where I have no connections, and truly know nothing about, because I think it is worth it. My funding is needed to pay my rent, utilities, business expenses, pet care one dog, one cat, three aquatic turtles, diabetic prescriptions, emergency medical insurance and food, while I am away. My web site is http://hoseajohnson.com/ from there you can go to my blog and Instagram page. Thank you, so much!
