As you all now know, the service industry has been devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Restaurants and bars around the world, have had to shut their doors and are uncertain when and if they'll be able to reopen.
While Blue Plate SF has been lucky to be able to continue to do a limited business providing take out and delivery for our community, they have had no choice but to let the overwhelming majority of staff members go until this is over, whenever that will be. This means that so many of the people who have made Blue Plate what it is have no way to pay rent or bills or take care of themselves or their families.
If you're a patron of Blue Plate, you know that we treat our guests like family. You know that, since first opening, we've greeted new and old friends with hugs and sparkling rosé. For twenty years, we have tried to provide folks with a sense of community and a feeling of belonging. Every member of the Blue Plate family has worked hard to create an environment that is accommodating and warm. And while we think our meatloaf and fried chicken are pretty delicious, the result of that hard work is a restaurant that is much more than just a place to have dinner. We are a family.
We hope we've made a difference in your life. Any donation you can spare right now would make a profound difference in ours.
We're asking you to consider all our employees- not just our servers, but also the ones who have cleared tables, baked pies, washed dishes, cut vegetables and stocked wine- that have made your evenings with us over the years memorable. All donations will be split evenly between our furloughed staff members. We decided on our goal amount based on our number of furloughed employees. If you'd like to continue to support Blue Plate as a business in addition to donating to our staff fund, please order take out or delivery from our restaurant directly.
