Help Michelle Help Haiti

This summer I am going to Haiti to help evaluate a nonprofit called Sustain Haiti. The organization's goal is to help Haiti recover through several programs, including English classes, planting square-foot gardens, and public health instruction. While the organization has seen tremendous success, there is always room for improvement, and my goal is to spend six weeks on the agroforestry team helping to plant, run trainings on how to replenish their forests' resources, and teaching groups how to begin community gardens. The program's in its fourth year now and is seeing tremendous success is turning the program  over to the locals who run it throughout the year. 

The reason I'm doing this is because I believe there are countless efforts around the world to improve the conditions in which people live--but there are also multiple hurdles to doing so. My purpose in going is to help people whose hearts are in the right place but still need added support. I've decided to make it my life's work to figure out how I can help the developing world in the most effective way, so donating to the trip supports innovation, creativity, and working towards a more compassionate and livable world.
