Juvenile Reentry Costs Campaign

Hubbell DuVall PLLC is a for-profit law firm located in Southfield, Michigan. The firm is dedicated to pro-bono service in the area of justice for juvenile offenders who have been sentenced to die in prison. In connection with this effort, the firm donates its time and energy to actively litigating in state and federal courts for the rights of juveniles to be free from punishments that are unconstitutionally cruel and unusual. In connection with our representation, there are significant costs involved, including copying and reproduction of documents, travel, telephone calls, postage, and mandatory filing fees, all of which the persons we represent cannot pay, and we cannot afford to advance. So we are turning to you to help us fight for the rights that all children should have.

Our client, Cortez Davis was recently granted parole, and we expect him to be released in September of 2018. We are now campaigning for the costs of reentry, as Cortez gets on his feet. We have secured employment, but as a condition of release, we need to arrange a safe living environment, and also the basic needs of someone starting life. We're treating it like a young adult going to college: we need a bed, a computer, a desk and desk chair, a security deposit for a landlord, some IKEA dishes and cookware, and some household linens. Much of it can be donated, but we'll also need to pay for things.
