The Helping Hands For Veterans
Want to join us in making a difference? Want to help improving homelessness in the veteran community with us? We are students from San Francisco that are raising money to benefit Veterans Transition Support, a nonprofit organization that helps veterans integrate into the workforce after their services. During such a pandemic, this non-profit organization needs our help to survive and continue providing services to veterans. Any amount of donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us as volunteers and the veteran community.
Going to school in San Francisco, the problem of homelessness is extremely visible for us. Walking on the street, a lot of people deeply suffer from issues that led to their homelessness, living with no hope shown on their faces. Also working at the Veteran Affair Medical Center of San Francisco, we realized that some of the veterans are also suffering from this problem. According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, about 11% of the entire homeless population are veterans. There are 11,472 homeless veterans in California itself, with the highest in the nation.
Homelessness can cause so much potential damage to a human being such as mental illness, drug abuse, nutritional deficiencies, etc. It is extremely hard to escape from the situation once it all starts. Therefore, it is necessary to provide veterans with training sessions to help them join the workforce and hopefully make a positive impact.
While escorting one of the patients in the hospital, the veteran told us about his experience being homeless for 2 years. It was an emotional story from him. He was an immigrant to this country. After finishing his service in the Navy, he was lost, without any families or friends to assist him. He ended up being homeless, experiencing mental issues as well. However, he was finally able to find a job and work in a warehouse. Also with some assistance from the government, he was able to escape the terrible situation.
Therefore, it came to our mind that many of those who fought and defended the country need our help. They deserve a chance to integrate into the society and workforce, to make a living with their own hands. Programs like the Veterans Transition Support that will guide them toward the correct path are necessary. By donating to help these veterans can improve or even eliminate the serious problem of homelessness. So please consider donating, any amount of donation can make an impact!
