Just weeks before her 40th birthday, Katie received the news no one ever expects: Stage 4 Lung Cancer. She began treatment on November 4, only days after marrying the love of her life, John.

We are Katie’s family and friends, rallying together to support her the way she has always supported us. Whether as a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, or coworker, Katie has shown up for everyone in her life with kindness, humor, and heart. Now it’s our turn to show up for her. We are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Katie and John so they can focus fully on treatment, healing, and the life they are building together as newlyweds.

In January 2025, Katie went to the doctor with what seemed like a stubborn cough after a bout of pneumonia. When it didn’t go away, she decided to get it checked out again. An urgent care visit revealed unusually low oxygen levels, leading her to the ER for further testing.

What followed were CT scans, two bronchoscopies (one for each lung), and two hospital stays - each procedure with its own complications, including a collapsed lung and trapped air around her heart. After all that, came the diagnosis: Stage 4 Lung Cancer. Even the doctors were stunned. At just 39 years old, with no traditional risk factors, Katie’s cancer was traced to a rare genetic mutation.

This wasn’t the life she and John had planned. Earlier in the year, she had started a new job with a big promotion, they were tackling renovations on their new home, and were still celebrating their July 4th engagement. But if there’s one thing everyone knows about Katie, it’s her resilience. She met this diagnosis with grace, faith, and determination - organizing a beautiful wedding in just two weeks, keeping her focus on love and the people who mean the most to her.

She continues to care deeply for everyone around her, despite her own battle and uncertainty. Now it’s our chance to care for her. This fundraiser is designed to help Katie and John cover the immediate costs of treatment, hospital stays, and related expenses as they begin this journey.
