Ashley and Jacob are two exceptionally loving parents to 3 children- Wyatt, Rayla, and Slade. Our dear friends are going through an unfathomable tragedy. Their 6 month old baby Slade has just been diagnosed with Krabbe Disease, a fatal disease in which there is no cure for, only clinical trials. These clinical trials cannot cure the disease, they can only lessen the pain and manage the symptoms of this disease (loss of vision and hearing, loss of muscle function, seizures, and many other debilitating symptoms). The life expectancy of this disease is no greater than 2 years old. This is an extremely rare disease that affects roughly 1 in 250,000 live births. Less than half of the United States currently include this disease in their newborn screening and sadly Michigan is not one of those states.

After visiting the ER for general concerns of delayed development, baby Slade was put under three different times during his 8 day hospital stay to undergo extensive testing- MRI, spinal tap, an EMG, and many more tests and screenings. The financial burden of this hospital stay in addition to any future hospital stays, specialty visits, and clinical trials will continue to grow and put financial hardship on the family. Jacob is the sole provider for his family of 5, while Ashley gave up her career to stay home with their three beautiful children. Jacob often works 10+ hours a day 6 days a week to provide for his family.

Our purpose for raising money for the Cardens is to ensure more financial stability so that Jacob is able to spend less time providing financially for his family so that he can spend more time being with his family in the ways that matter while Slade is still here. Another reason for this fundraiser is to spread awareness for this deadly disease that claims the life of innocent babies. If you are unable to contribute financially we simply ask that you share it on your platforms to reach as many people as possible.
