Matias needs your help

Dear family, friends, and friends of friends, I wanted to thank you first for taking the time to read this message. My son Matias is going through a challenging medical process, and we need your help. Everything started in early April when he was supposed to be going to the hospital for simple knee arthroscopy. He was on bed rest the first week and almost the same the second week, and his recovery was going well. He was going to the check-up appointments, and the doctor said the same, all was fine. Two weeks after the surgery, the doctor removed the staples, and then our nightmare started. That same night his knee started swelling up, and he was in so much pain. The doctor said it was probably inflamed and just prescribed painkillers and anti-inflammatories. After a couple of days that we saw this wasn’t working, I took him to the emergency room, where they said the same thing and sent him back home. It broke my heart to see him in so much pain. He couldn’t stand, touch the floor, or walk with that leg. I decided to take him to another doctor for a second opinion, and that is when he said it was an infection, they drained all the fluid he had accumulated there and sent it to the lab. It was confirmed that he has septic arthritis on his right knee due to staphylococcus aureus, he has it located in his knee’s articulations, and this is causing it to swell up and for him to be in constant pain. The doctor performed a flushing surgery where he used 12 liters of liquid. But because this bacterium is so resistant, we do not know if he will need another flushing procedure. And for now, he needs to have intravenous antibiotics, and pain medicine and stay in the hospital for 14 days, until they can make sure it is under control, and then when he can go home, continue with the treatment orally for 4 more weeks. I am sharing all this with you and asking kindly for your help because the insurance won’t cover any of this. They are alleging it was the hospital’s fault that he got infected due to the surgery, and the hospital is saying he could have gotten this infection anywhere. So, no one wants to be responsible for this, and it’s falling on me. The bill keeps getting bigger and bigger, so besides my worry about his medical situation, I also have to worry about how I will pay for everything, and even for the hospital to continue treating him.

As a single mother, my main concern and motivation in life have always been my two children, so of course, my son’s health and recovery are my priority right now. We believe with your help and patience; we can make this happen. I would love nothing more than to see my son smile again and be able to return to his sporty and adventurous life. Querida familia, amigos y amigos de amigos, quería agradecerles primero por tomarse el tiempo de leer este mensaje. Mi hijo Matías está pasando por un proceso médico difícil, y necesitamos su ayuda. Todo comenzó a principios de abril cuando se suponía que iba a ir al hospital para una simple artroscopia de rodilla. Estuvo en reposo la primera semana y casi igual la segunda, y su recuperación iba bien. Acudía a las citas de revisión y el médico decía lo mismo, todo estaba bien. Dos semanas después de la operación, el médico le quitó los puntos, y entonces empezó nuestra pesadilla. Esa misma noche se le empezó a hinchar la rodilla y le dolía mucho. El médico dijo que probablemente estaba inflamada y sólo le recetó analgésicos y antiinflamatorios. Después de un par de días en los que vimos que esto no funcionaba, lo llevé a urgencias, donde dijeron lo mismo y lo mandaron de vuelta a casa. Se me rompió el corazón al verlo con tanto dolor. No podía estar de pie, ni tocar el suelo, ni caminar con esa pierna. Decidí llevarlo a otro médico para que me diera una segunda opinión, y fue entonces cuando me dijo que era una infección, le drenaron todo el líquido que tenía acumulado allí y lo enviaron al laboratorio. Se confirmó que tiene artritis séptica en la rodilla derecha por estafilococo áureo, la tiene localizada en las articulaciones de la rodilla, y esto le está provocando una inflamación y un dolor constante. El médico le realizó una cirugía de lavado en la que utilizó 12 litros de líquido. Pero como esta bacteria es tan resistente, no sabemos si necesitará otro procedimiento de lavado. Y por ahora, necesita tener antibióticos intravenosos, y medicamentos para el dolor y permanecer en el hospital durante 14 días, hasta que puedan asegurarse de que está bajo control, y luego cuando pueda ir a casa, continuar con el tratamiento por vía oral durante 4 semanas más. Todo esto lo comparto con ustedes y les pido amablemente su ayuda porque el seguro no cubre nada de esto. Alegan que fue culpa del hospital que se infectó debido a la cirugía, y el hospital dice que podría haber contraído esta infección en cualquier lugar. Así que nadie quiere ser responsable de esto, y está cayendo sobre mí. La factura se hace cada vez más grande, así que además de mi preocupación por su situación médica, también tengo que preocuparme por cómo voy a pagar todo, e incluso para que el hospital siga tratándolo.

Como madre soltera, mi principal preocupación y motivación en la vida siempre han sido mis dos hijos, así que, por supuesto, la salud y la recuperación de mi hijo son mi prioridad en este momento.
