Hi community: our dear friend Louisa, who will bring you a pie when you’re down or pet sit for you while you’re on vacation is now in need herself.

A couple of months ago she became critically anemic due to blood loss, white as a sheet, unable to breathe, walk or work. After trips to Texas Oncology, gynecologists, and others, labwork showed she was so critically anemic, she needed to be rushed to the hospital for 2 IVs of blood and begin a series of iron infusions.

As she works with a team of specialists to determine the underlying cause of these issues, her gynecologist recommended a treatment plan to include a series of surgeries to lessen her symptoms.

Insurance will not cover the recommended care plan.

Instead, last week she underwent a different invasive and expensive surgery that insurance would cover in hopes that it will help. She's not yet fully recovered and unsure if the surgery will resolve the underlying issues.

However, the cost has crippled her financially — she’s had to take short term, unpaid leave from work to recuperate, and pay Surgeon and Surgery Facility fees up front. This is after having already taken FMLA in the months previous, being treated for critical anemia — putting her behind on rent and utilities.

Charity options and financial assistance through the hospital are being looked into, but we are asking you, our community, for any help you are willing and able to give with the mounting medical bills, to help keep the lights on and a roof over her head during this difficult time.

It’s hard to ask for help, but it’s important to reach out when you need it.
