Alice's Hope is a plea for our sister Alice Herndon, who is suffering through the final stages of lung cancer and is in hospice at home. We hope to raise $100,000 for her continued care, household and family needs.
Alice was born in 1969, the same year our maternal grandfather died of lung cancer. Since that time we have had over 15 family members pass away from cancer. This disease has had a profound and devastating effect on our entire family. Alice was first diagnosed in August 2013 and at that time she was already at Stage 4, with cancer in her lung, lymph nodes, throat and brain. She has undergone multiple radiation, chemo and immuno-therapy treatments. She has fought a long, hard and courage battle against this unrelenting disease. But her treatments have ceased and the doctors can do no more. So we wait on the Lord.
Alice nows worries about the well-being of her family. She is a single mother of 4, with two teenage girls, 14 and 17 years old, an adult daughter, with 2 young daughters of her own and an adult son. She has always worked hard and managed to raise a beautiful and loving family on her own. But because of her health issues she has been unable to work since her diagnosis. Due to the loss of her income, she also lost of her savings and her life insurance coverage.
Anyone that knows Alice can tell you she is a fiercely strong and independent young woman and asking for help from others is not easy. She has said "I'm going to be alright", but she wants to be at peace knowing that she leaves her family without the burdens of her final expenses and her 2 young daughters some semblance of financial security. She asked us to do this fund for her and it is our priviledge to honor her final wish. This is an urgent request! It is Alice's Hope and ours that you find it in your heart to help our sister and her family.
