Fitzgerald Band San Francisco Trip
Donazione protetta
Fitzgerald High School is located in Warren, Michigan on the border of Detroit. We are an extremely high poverty level building (greater than 80% free or reduced lunch) that has the 5th most diverse school population in the state Michigan. Our students and staff take great pride in this diversity.
Many of our students have never left the city of Warren or the North end of Detroit. Because of the tendancy of our students to remain at home, the instrumental music program attempts to make bienniel trips to various locations around the United States. This year we are undertaking travel to San Francisco for an experience to include a plane flight, listen to a phenomenal major Symphony Orchestra, visit a few museums, and take a tour of Alcatraz. Currently our students making the trip have paid $500 or more towards their goal of $1,400.
Our obstacle is the amount of fundraising currently taking place by many groups within our small community that has saturated the market. Every sports team, club, scout troop, parent group, and charity targets the same individuals. This saturation is causing many of our students come up short on their next payments to attend the trip.
I am asking that together we try to cover as much of the remaining $1,000 owed per student as possible.
The Fitzgerald Band program is a highly acclaimed program that has won several state and national awards for exceptional music programs including: the MASB Educational Excellence Award, the Grammy Enterprise Award, HSBDNA National Online Festival -Overall Champion, a Mr. Hollands Opus Foundation Grant, and Grammy Signature School Finalist.
I am Brian Roelandt, band director of the Fitzgerald High School Band Program. This is my 24th year teaching and am very proud of my students for their hard work, practice habits, team work, and constant striving to improve year after year. Our band room is truly a family and a great place to be, but it's a big world out there and we want to see it together.
Please help if you can. Thank you!
