Hot Meals for Alzheimer's Day Center
About Us
ASEB (Alzheimer's Services of the East Bay) is a nonprofit organization that provides a comprehensive range of services for individuals facing the challenges of memory loss. We opened our doors in 1989 and run two award-winning adult day centers. We also offer caregiver support, information and referrals, and an extensive training and education program. Our goal is to enable people with Alzheimer's and related conditions to remain at home for as long as possible, and to avoid premature or inappropriate institutionalization.
Last year we served 12,707 breakfasts, 22,519 lunches, and 13,258 snacks to the particpants who attend our day care centers. We pride ourselves on serving attractive, nutritious meals in a convivial setting so that those who spend time at our centers are nourished physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Nearly 65% of our current Adult Day Health Care participants are low income and 90% are over the age of 65. Each year we struggle to find the funds to keep our centers open so that we can continue to serve this community, where the need is so great. The last two years have been particularly difficult because of the state of California's budget crisis. Now we are facing devastating cuts that threaten to prevent many of our participants from attending our day program.
Our Goal
The buffet cart you see on this page would allow us to transport
meals directly from the delivery van to the tables where our participants are
waiting to eat. The cart keeps food at the proper temperature, so no reheating
is necessary. Our staff can serve all the meals at once, table-side, instead of
carrying them one-by-one from our kitchen. Each cart is $3,658. Our goal is to raise enough
money to buy one cart for each of our two centers.
How You Can Help
We
appreciate your generous donation in any amount. Our participants and their families
depend on ASEB to provide a safe, nurturing environment and we depend on our
supporters to keep our doors open. Your donation is tax deductible. On behalf
of all of our participants and their families, as well as the ASEB staff, thank
you in advance for your support!
