Creative Kids Club - Riverside

We are a small group of volunteers trying to raise money to form a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe place for kids to be when their parents can't be around for them.
We call this place the Creative Kids Club.
It's only in our imaginations right now, but if we raise enough funds through donations, we can make it a reality.
The problem we hope to solve is this: Thousands of Riverside children live in a latch-key situation. Their parents work and much of the time they spend at home alone and unsupervised.
This leads to big problems. Children living in this situation are more likely to try drugs, to get into gangs, and drop out of high school. Eventually, many land in prison.
We want to change that.
We want to give these kids a place where their parents can leave them and they can learn, be creative, and have fun. Learn a dance. Finger paint. Play drums. Make friends.
We want to make it cheap too, so even the least wealthy of our neighbors can bring their kids to join the fun.
Our first goal is to raise $430 to pay for an employer identification number ($30) and our federal application for tax-excempt status ($400). Once we get those, we'll be an official nonprofit organization!
The next step will be to find a place to run the club. We plan to talk to city, county, school district and other officials to find a place that's cheap or free.
