Colin McGrath was taken into heaven on Wednesday July 25th after a wonderful day in the park. His life was full of love, laughter, curiosity, and learning. Always playing, singing, dancing, and asking questions; Colin lived every minute of his brief time with us to the fullest. His laughing eyes, beautiful curls, hilarious voice, and sense of adventure will never be forgotten. His smile made everyone's heart happy.

Colin leaves behind his best friend and partner in crime, Sloane.  These two spent countless hours on the playground at various parks around South Boston.  We pray his spirit lives on in each of us forever.  One way Kerri, Brendan and Sloane would like to do this is by completing a project in his name at one of the local South Boston parks.  The results of this fundraiser will determine what exactly that will be, however we have hopes to do something very special for many children to enjoy for years to come.

A small portion of the funds may also be used to assist in Sloane's recovery from the accident.

GoFundMe has asked me to add the following information to ensure we are in line with the transparency requirements: My name is Katie McMahon, I am from Sleepy Hollow, New York.  I am Kerri's sister and Sloane and Colin's aunt.  I am organizing this campaign on behalf of the McGrath's.  While we don't know specifically how the funds will be used at this point, we can assure you they will be used to either improve upon an existing park space/playground in South Boston OR create an entirely new one in Colin's name.  As we have more information, we will update this page.

We wanted to take a moment to share some updates with you all. First and foremost, Sloane is doing incredibly well. She has completed all her surgeries, recovered from her injuries, and is doing great in school.

Inspired by your generosity, we have been busy building a plan for Colin’s legacy. With this in mind, we have:

* partnered with the Boston Foundation (a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization) to create a donor-advised fund with all monies raised thus far, called Colin’s Joy Project ( https://www.tbf.org/donors/forms/colins-joy-project). Our hope is to enhance local playspaces and support children’s programming, particularly for families in need in our community for years to come.
* started discussions with City of Boston officials related to two potential projects in South Boston,
* started discussions with State of Massachusetts officials related to a potential playground project in South Boston,
* nearly finalized our website and logo (once the logo is finalized there will be some Colin's Joy Project merchandise available!!),
* made a donation to Julie's Family Learning Center which is an amazing place in South Boston where at risk mothers can receive free education, job training and life skills while their children are in daycare (we supported a young mother and her 3 year old son this winter),
* made a donation to the South Boston Neighborhood House (SBNH) where we sponsored a South Boston family in need this Christmas, and
* sponsored the SBCA Jingle Bell race (Sloane's school 5K fundraiser, which raised money for the playground being built at the school, part of which will be named after Colin).

Some other big news is that Kerri, our sister Christy, and a few other amazing people have secured numbers to run in the 2019 Boston Marathon as part of “Team Colin”. All monies raised will go to the Colin's Joy Project fund. For those of you who are in the Boston area - stay tuned for local fundraisers and come cheer Team Colin on at the marathon on April 15, 2019!

We expect to have some really exciting updates for you on the playground projects this spring – stay tuned!

Most importantly, thank you all for your generous financial, moral and emotional support over the past 5 months. The enormous support and these exciting projects on the horizon have helped make this time more bearable.

If you are interested in squeezing in a tax deductible donation before the end of 2018, you can do so through the Boston Foundation at https://www.tbf.org/donors/forms/colins-joy-project), or if you prefer to avoid a small credit card fee you can go through PwC Impact Space https://pwc.yourcause.com/public#/fundraising/4538

xoxo,

Katie, on behalf of Colin’s Joy Project, and especially Brendan, Kerri and Sloane
