The Wissahickon Waterfowl Preserve (WWP), a subsidiary of Wissahickon Trails, is dedicated to transforming human impact into natural beauty. Located on an 18-acre preserve in Ambler near Wissahickon Creek, WWP exemplifies community-driven conservation. Acquired in 2006 with local support, the site became the BoRit Asbestos Superfund Site in 2007, leading to a comprehensive cleanup by the EPA, completed in 2017. Today, visitors can enjoy a 511-foot walking path and benches around the 11-acre pond, which is fenced for safety. Accessible via foot, bike, car, bus, or rail, the preserve offers vital bird habitats year-round, featuring species like wood ducks, herons, and migrating sandpipers. An artificial chimney, built in 2018, supports the declining chimney swift population.
