Heart Surgery for Ta'mayah Rolle
Update: 5/18/2021 Ta'mayah now recovering from surgery! Thanks to you all baby Ta'mayah had her surgery today 5/18, and is in recovery! They are watching over things, blood pressure etc so please keep her and the family in your prayers. Thank you all again. For more updates and info please like the FB page we setup for her. You'll find more info and a link to a seperate giving fund that family was able to setup to help the Rolle family directly with unexpected expenses that are not part of the non-profit's charter. We are so grateful and blessed and thrilled beyond words to announce that yesterday, a miracle! Extremely generous and caring angel donor(s), who wish to remain anonymous, saw the fundraiser and contributed directly to Sassoon Heart Foundation to cover the estimated hospital portion of Ta’mayah’s needs. Thank You Thank You Thank You!
That, combined with all of you have generously donated means we have reached our goal and Ta’mayah will be able to get the surgery she needs and family* will able to be with their baby during her surgery and recovery at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital (* & see update). Wow, what a miracle! You all are amazing!
Ta’mayah has to put on a couple pounds to be safe for the surgery but that is underway and I will post updates as things get scheduled. Thank you to EVERYONE for your prayers, re-shares and donations! We are blown away and can’t thank everyone enough. The Rolle’s, were in tears when they got the news and thank you from the bottom of their heart.

Ta'mayah Rolle is 4 months old, who lives in the Bahamas she has down syndrome and is in need of heart surgery they have to have done at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Florida.
The Rolle's are Bahamian citizens, and Bahamas is unsupported country by GoFundMe thus, the family unable to setup their own site or receive any donations directly from GoFundme. Assistance that would normally be available has dried up due to the covid shut downs. However, a US non-profit, Sassoon Heart Foundation Inc, (Victor Sassoon Heart Foundation Bahamas) that works with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, who would normally be able to assist, has graciously agreed to partner with us in facilitating our effort for the Rolle families needs.
The covid situation has made many normal avenues for assistance unavailable, many non profits haven’t been able to do their normal fundraising, so we hope this fundraiser can help to get little Ta’mayah the surgery she needs. I really hope you can find a few dollars to help this wonderful family and their little angel.
So, I’ve setup this fundraiser to help raise funds for the surgery that the foundation will disburse so that this little angel needs and expenses so her parents can travel to Miami to get the surgery done. The estimate for the surgery is $85,331.00 and estimating $5000 for travel and lodging for the family. Our goal is a little higher to cover some of the fundraising fees and have a bit of a pad for unforeseen expenses*. Anything we can raise above and beyond the Rolle’s needs will be used by the charity to assist other Bahamian children and families needs. Your donation is tax deductible here in the US, so you can’t go wrong.

I became friends with Ta’mayah’s father, Tamaro when he put me thru the drills to get my open water scuba certification and have had many dives together since and have stayed in touch. He truly helped me with life changing experience and I want to do what I can to help them.

On your receipt will show that funds will be delivered to Sassoon Heart Foundation in May. However; Sassoon, although registered with GFM is getting things setup with PayPalGiving to expedite delivery of the donations. Using GoFundMe charity method, the funds are transferred via PayPalGiving. Here's info on how that works. GofundMe's PayPalGiving Support Article Info via Alas, given that Bahamas isn't a supported country thru GoFundMe, this is the only way we were able to get this fundraiser going and be able to help the Rolle's, thru Sassoon Heart Foundation (Big Thank You). Thank you for your understanding and please reach out for any concerns.
*The non-profit is limited by its charter on what it can or can not disburse. Travel and accommodations are coordinated between hospital and foundation usually for one parent and are being handled by Sassoon for the Rolle's through the hospital. Please note, the only way we had to do this was to fundraise for the non-profit that would provide for the surgery for Ta'mayah, at the same time bound by the rules they must operate under. It was a miracle, and could not have been foreseen, that a large donor stepped up and covered the hospital, however that left us being at our goal (over) and finding there were some limitations on what is allowed to be disbursed per their charter rules. They are not allowed to disburse funds as cash or pay for things that are not normally included within their charter, i.e. incidentals, additional traveler, traveling fund etc. In other words not a pass thru. So, anything above Ta'mayah's needs for heart surgery that Sassoon is providing for Ta'mayah, stays with Sassoon to help other children in need of heart surgery as was mentioned in the post. Please see also the update from 3/8/2011.
Unfortunately, with Paypal and GFM not supporting Bahamas, this was the only way we could do this as a GoFundMe Charity with US Charity. However; If this is problematic for any of our donors, please reach out and I will coordinate to work to get you a refund. The great news is Ta'mayah will get her heart surgery.
