Sobre Joseph F. Glidden Homestead and Historical Center
The Joseph F. Glidden Homestead and Historical Center was created to create a venue that would, through preservation and demonstration, educate youth and adults about their regional and national history, especially as it pertains to barbed wire, provide research into barbed wire and its effect on farming and ranching, and celebrate the life of a notable American, Joseph F. Glidden, the inventor of one of the most popular and widely used types of barbed wire. This important contribution to American history and development was invented on the Homestead in 1873. The original house and barn, constructed in 1861, still stand on the site; and the organization seeks to restore and preserve the homestead to its period of highest historical significance, during the 1870's.
