More information about Higher Ground Youth Challenge: The mission of Higher Ground Youth Challenge is to "provide a safe environment for at-risk youth to challenge themselves and their limiting beliefs through mentoring and outdoor experiences". The Higher Ground mentoring program is designed to positively impact the lives of participants for the long-term. Kids set goals, plan careers, and learn about giving back to their community. They practice leadership skills and embrace taking responsibility for themselves, while caring about others. Our highly trained mentors, who may have met their mentee during summer camp, listen intently, develop a rapport with their mentor and then work to address problems the kids encounter every day. The initial message is "Do everything in your power to stay in school." The mentor provides the help and attention needed to assist the teen with everyday challenges that undermine confidence and stand in the way of even small successes.
