I'm running the Lisbon Marathon Oct 25th to support Afrikids. But this year, I'm not alone. Laurie Evans, Alastair McCluskey & Lisa Ross, Stuart McCluskey & Rita Devine, Alec McCluskey & Tara Thorp, Sarah McCluskey, David Atkinson, Jabier Arbeloa, Lucy Brzeski & I are part of Team Afrikids. Together we aim to raise $25,000 for Afrikids, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth in the Usa River area of Tanzania. Backed by sponsors & donors in the US, Canada & Europe, Afrikids gives more than 150 needy kids the chance to succeed by paying for school tuition, uniforms, lunches, classroom supplies & healthcare. Last year, 156 amazing friends donated to the 2nd annual Run for Afrikids, raising over $18,000 as I ran the Patagonia Marathon, while my valiant partner and Afrikids cofounder Laurie braved brutal winds to complete the half marathon with our dear friend David Atkinson.

This year in Lisbon, we have 12 people participating. Yay! Some are running the full marathon. Others are walking shorter courses. But whatever the distance, the goal is the same: to raise money to support beautiful kids in Tanzania. Please join us on this Run for Afrikids & help us reach the finish line! Last year, 128 friends, family members & colleagues donated to the 1st Run for Afrikids, raising over $10,000 as I completed the Montreal Marathon. 

This year, the stakes are higher. The Patagonia Marathon is a brutal test. The weather can be nasty --cold, wet & windy-- and the climbs are cruel. I'll need all the help I can get!!

I'm aiming to raise $15,000 or more. That's a ton of money. And it will have a huge impact on the lives of these beautiful children & their families.

Hi everyone. I'm running the Montreal Marathon Sept 24 to raise money for Afrikids, a wonderful non-profit that funds quality education for at-risk kids in Tanzania. Afrikids was launched in 2011 by my partner Laurie & her daughter Samantha. With support from friends & family, they sponsored 6 children, allowing them to attend English-language boarding schools in the Arusha area. Today, more than 100 students are in the Afrikids program, supported by generous sponsors & donors from the US, Canada & Europe.

As for me, I'm an inveterate runner, who occasionally summons the courage to run another marathon. My very 1st was in Montreal in 1980. So 43 years later, I’m running my 2nd Montreal marathon. This time, for sure, it will be a lot tougher (and slower). But I will suffer less knowing that you are in it with me. And I will remind myself that $10,000 goes a long way in Tanzania. With that money, Afrikids will be able to fund 7 more needy students at boarding schools for an entire year. Asante sana (thank you) for your support!!!
