At the beginning of June this year, the organization 4 Life launched a campaign for a young Bišć woman Merjem Begić, who since the end of last year has been fighting serious health problems caused by Lyme disease and chronic Lyme disease, as a result of a tick infected bite. Thanks to the donations collected by 4 Life, Merjam is currently being treated at Medicana International Hospital in Istanbul. "I want to thank everyone who is helping and accompanying us in this action. Treatment is long-term and demanding," says her father Alem Begić, who is with Mary in the hospital, because she cannot be without constant supervision. "We are often asked if it is getting better. Unfortunately, improvements are only visible after six months, and Maryam began proper treatment only a month ago, so her condition still does not show much progress,” Alem added. Treatment is further difficult by therapies that cause specific reactions known as Herx, meaning that her already weakened body has to take extra effort. Although it's a necessary part of the process, it's not easy. Also, Maryam suffers from hypersomnia, so she spends up to 20 hours a day sleeping. The drug that could help her is very expensive and available only in America. The costs of her treatment are at least 700 € a day, and it is necessary to continue the action so that the treatment can last at least six months. Organization 4 Life has, in addition to an open humanitarian phone number, enabled receipts for donations from the country and abroad, from which directly pay hospital costs in Istanbul.
Početkom juna ove godine, organizacija 4 Life pokrenula je akciju za mladu Bišćanku Merjem Begić, koja se od kraja prošle godine bori sa teškim zdravstvenim problemima izazvanim Lajmskom bolešću i hroničnom boreliozom, posljedicama ugriza zaraženog krpelja. Zahvaljujući donacijama koje prikuplja 4 Life, Merjem je trenutno na liječenju u bolnici Medicana International u Istanbulu. “Želim se zahvaliti svima koji pomažu i prate nas u ovoj akciji. Liječenje je dugotrajno i zahtjevno,” kaže njen otac Alem Begić, koji je s Merjem u bolnici, jer ona ne može biti bez stalnog nadzora. “Često nas pitaju ide li na bolje. Nažalost, poboljšanja su vidljiva tek nakon šest mjeseci, a Merjem je tek prije mjesec dana započela ispravno liječenje, pa njeno stanje još uvijek ne pokazuje veći napredak,” dodaje Alem. Liječenje dodatno otežavaju terapije koje izazivaju specifične reakcije poznate kao Herx, što znači da njeno već oslabljeno tijelo mora podnijeti dodatne napore. Iako je to neophodan dio procesa, nije nimalo lako. Također, Merjem pati od hipersomnije, pa provodi do 20 sati dnevno u snu. Lijek koji bi joj mogao pomoći je veoma skup i dostupan samo u Americi. Troškovi njenog liječenja iznose najmanje 700 € dnevno, a potrebno je nastaviti akciju kako bi liječenje trajalo najmanje šest mjeseci. Organizacija 4 Life je, uz otvoreni humanitarni broj telefona, omogućila i račune za donacije iz zemlje i inostranstva, s kojih se direktno plaćaju bolnički troškovi u Istanbulu.
