Advanced Cancer Therapy Treatment

A final chance to live

Hello there. My name is John Bacile and I’m a Christian father of 4, and a stage 4 cancer patient with only a few months left to live (Again.)

I know that some of you reading this may have also heard these words from your doctor, and if you haven’t, I can tell you, it is sobering. Your entire world comes to a stop. By the time I discovered I had bladder cancer 2 and a half years ago, it was
almost too late. I had a very aggressive, invasive cancer that had already eaten into the muscle wall of my bladder.

My options were so stark, so quickly, that I could barely breathe. I was told that unless I had a Cystectomy (surgery to remove the bladder and other nearby organs that are affected) and take Chemotherapy and Radiation for 3-6 months, I would probably only live 12 months and suffer a painful death as the cancer was obviously progressing in an unfavorable area. Even if I elected to allow the surgery, the cancer may have already grown past the point of being eradicated.

I really wasn't given other choices and the Oncologists wanted to begin their operations, chemo and radiation within 2 weeks. But I consider myself fortunate that my first instinct was to pray. Seemingly out of nowhere, I remembered a book I had read the year before that discussed holistic therapies for cancer patients and it recommended ingesting overwhelming clean and raw nutrition in large doses in order to rebuild your immune system's natural weapons against disease.

So I politely refused the doctor’s advice since having come to believe that destroying my immune system with chemicals and poison would greatly affect my odds of living a quality life in the few months I had left with my family. Instead, I decided to go on an all-natural, holistic, organic diet - juicing, raw organic foods, steamed vegetables, lean meats and various supplements, vitamins and enzymes, etc.

That was February 2016 and we acted immediately with no hesitation. However, because the cancer was so aggresive by June it had begun to cut off urination and so I elected to have a secondary surgery called a TURP where they go in and cut out as much of the tumor as possible. The pain and the constriction were immediately relieved, but not for long. By August, I needed another operation, and by December, a third.

By the time of that operation 11 months had passed and the tumor had now merged so much with my bladder that it was increasingly difficult to tell them apart in key areas like the ureters where urine drains from the kidneys to the bladder. I remember that disappointing day when I was informed that the doctors could perform no more operations; the cancer would only grow from here.

The day after the December 2016 operation, my kidneys began to fail. The next morning, I needed an emergency Nephrostomy (where tubes are inserted into your kidneys through your back to drain them.)

I remember being very discouraged that day as I lay in my hospital bed. Tubes in the front of me, and bags and tubes on my sides and back; the pain of back to back operations and the dreadful thoughts in my head of how quickly I was deteriorating were overwhelming.

One day in the beginning when I had initially prayed to the Lord, I heard His voice tell me, “This disease is not unto death.” It was quiet; it was deep, and I daily held on to it as I fought to beat back the cancer. “But what now?” I thought. “After all this how could I possibly be saved?”

Because also in June of that year, a new breakthrough in Immunotherapy for bladder cancer had been rushed to the market by the FDA, the first such advance in over 30 years. I remember thinking about how fortunate I would be if only I could take the IV therapy. However, the FDA had approved the wonder drug only for dying patients who had exhausted all other standard options - surgery, chemo, and radiation.

But remember I had turned all that down.

How unfortunate, I thought, that something that could possibly save me was so close and yet so far. While I was pondering our limited options, the Oncologist informed us that because I was given the emergency Nephrostomy, I was no longer a potential Chemo patient. And as of that day, I had technically exhausted all possible cures. I was now terminal, and eligible for the immunotherapy.

And just like that, I was the second person in Dallas Texas to begin taking the advanced bladder cancer drug, “TECENTRIQ.” And then like magic after only 3 months, the scans showed that I had responded wonderfully to it. All the cancer outside of my bladder had disappeared and the main tumor had shrunk over 25%. What great excitement and hope we had. It happened so quickly and was such a miracle at the very last minute.

But cancer is very clever and unfortunately, after only 8 months, the drug stopped working and the next scans showed that the cancer was back and worse it was growing in many other places as well. Month after month we continued with a similar bladder Immunotherapy and always taking the nutrition program as there was nothing else to do. As the months have passed, the cancer had continued to spread to my kidney and my lymph system in my throat and groin, and the main tumor has become very large.

2 weeks ago we took new scans since an additional 8 months have passed since the last, and based on them, the oncologists have again given me only months to live.

Thank you for reading this far because you won't believe what happened next. Naturally our hopes and hearts were shattered and our finances had become utterly depleted. I know this is how it is for so many people with cancer, and my heart aches for those less fortunate than myself. My story up until now is the same story so many people share. It's just a devastating disease in so many ways.

I am once again faced with this fact - If I do not have a miracle very, very soon, I am going to die. This was not as frightening to me as it once was though, because we have already had so many miracles during our journey that we have simply come to expect them. It seems that whatever we needed, whenever we needed it, was always there. (But this time, I must admit, I didn’t know what else there could possibly be) Are you going through a cancer trial or any other great difficulty in your life? I want to encourage you to never give up and always, always trust the Lord. He is good and merciful.

With all this despair and difficulty surrounding us, our trust in the Lord was all we had left. That was when, only two days ago, two of my customers who had heard about my cancer walked into my business and sat down. They said that they are involved on the margins in one of the world’s most exciting cutting edge scientific Immunotherapy drugs, developed at Baylor Medical College in Houston Texas. They wanted to know if I’d go to a clinic in India to take treatment.

And again, seemingly out of nowhere, just hours after I had been on the verge of accepting my imminent demise, my fatalism has turned into hope. For me, this is not a trial. The drug has been proven to work and is not just for bladder cancer; it has already completed a remarkable trial and it works for all solid tumor cancers.

There I was, as you can imagine, stunned, speechless, and light as a feather as another timely miracle was laid at my feet.  But in order to take advantage of it I will need a lot of financial help. That's where you come in and I need your help as fast as possible - timing is essential - I must leave soon and begin the treatment that could well save me from this aggressive cancer.

Having to act so quickly, we cannot take the time to first raise the funds, so we are leaving June 3rd on faith and well-placed hope because this treatment has been proven to work favorably on 40% of the first group who had been given treatment. And now the door has been opened for us to go. The cost of the medicine and travel expenses is in the neighborhood of $85,000/95,000 - and the initial part needs to be raised fairly quickly.

Fighting this disease for 3 years now, has left us with virtually no money in order to take advantage of the treatment being offered to us. From a brief email this week sent to a few of our family and friends - an initial amount of cash was raised to begin the process and secure a deposit in order to be accepted into treatment.

However, none of the estimated $85,000 plus is covered by insurance so we are needing to turn to the mercy and grace of anyone wishing to help. Even if you cannot help us financially, please sign up for our blog and follow our experiences as you or someone you may know could easily need this therapy in the future – hopefully as it gets less and less expensive.

This is what we can share with you as of now:

-            We are asking that you donate any cash amount you can via Go Fund Me. We are also asking that you donate any excess Frequent Flier points as we can use these points by giving miles in exchange for cash.

-            From our initial email above, we additionally received donations from several people of over 600,000 Frequent Flyer miles. With a portion of these, we were able to purchase 3 roundtrip airfares as my two sons Kelly 19 and David 28 will be going with me. (David will only stay for 3 weeks)

Here is our Itinerary:

-          June 3rd through June 6th we fly from Dallas to NY to London to New Delhi India. (There were direct flights but I'm so easily fatigued we needed to factor in a couple of rest nights)

-           My first injection will be June 20th.

-           Second injection will be July 3rd, and the third and final injection will be July 17th.

-           By the 2nd injection, I should begin to see reduction in tumor sizes. By the 3rd injection, my cancers will be a fraction of their original sizes. By August 1st, I should be in full remission.

What a glorious day that will be!

-          HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK

-          The treatment is a dendritic cell immunotherapy.

-           The technique is absolute cutting edge state of the art.

-          It was developed at Baylor College of Medicine Houston Texas

-          Cancer tissue is taken from the main tumor, and then the DNA of the patient’s white blood cells are altered to attack that specific cancer.

-          It works on all solid cancers.

-          Tests to date show the treatment to be extraordinarily effective.  The treatment has no side effects and results begin immediately.

-          The treatment has not yet been approved in the U.S. but has been approved in India, that's why I am going there to receive the treatment.

-          However, the very first United States trial will be at Baylor College of Medicine starting late next month on pancreatic cancer.  The treatment I will be receiving in India is a very similar treatment being given to the pancreatic patients here in the first American trial.

I'm so excited!

-          Because after looking at my 3-year medical history, my immune system, and estimated time left to live - the scientists believe that I have an excellent probability of having no discernable tumors by the end of August.

-            I thank you all in advance for helping me and my family. Without help from people like you there would be no hope for us. You are our only hope.

God bless you all so very much,

And thank you.

John Bacile and family.
