Zachary's New Bedroom
Donazione protetta
On August 25th little 6 year old Zachary was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. Zachary had been having a pain in his hip/groin area for a year. After multiple doctors visits, Zachary's regular pediatrician didn't know what was causing the pain. So he was referred to a rheumatologist in hopes they would discover it was arthritis and he could begin to get treated. The rheumotologist quickly determined it was not arthritis and ordered an MRI. So on August 22nd,, one week after Zachary's 6th birthday, he had an MRI that changed his life forever. They found a tumor the size of an orange growing out of one of his pelvic bones.
After 3 months of chemotherapy, the tumor was gone. However, his bone still had the cancer within it. So on Tuesday, December 9th, 2014, Zachary had a surgery called an internal hemipelvectomy, a rare surgery that is rarely, if ever, performed on someone as young as him. They removed the lower left part of Zachary's pelvis and his left hip socket. The road to recovery will be long and arduous. But the doctors believe they got out all of his cancer!
While we hope and believe his cancer is gone, Zachary will be having to learn how to walk all over again, something that could take him a year or more. However, even with the hope of Zachary being able to walk again one day, he will never be the same as they removed his pelvic bones but were unable to reconstruct them in any way.
We are raising funds to have Zachary's bedroom constructed downstairs next to his mom and dad, instead of up the steep set of stairs in our 1926 bungalow where his bedroom currently is, so Zachary can more easily utilize his bedroom. Zachary's uncle who is also a builder, has determined that this is very doable. This fundraiser will help us raise the funds to do the construction in the house, as well as help us with some other bills while we focus on caring for Zachary.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support. You can follow Zachary's ongoing story on facebook .
