Dean’s List

Meet Dean, he is 11 years old and has a rare condition called Mulibrey Nanism. There are very few people diagnosed with this condition, approximately 116 worldwide to our knowledge and every case is different from one another.Mulibrey Nanism affects a persons muscles, liver, brain and eye function. It has also caused complications to Dean’s heart meaning he required heart surgery 6 years ago and brittle bone syndrome causing him to brake 5 bones in 2 years meaning more surgery. To date Dean has had 18 operations in his lifetime and has regular hospital admissions due to respiratory infections and heart failure. Just before Christmas we received news from Dean’s Cardiologist saying that the function of his heart had once again deteriorated and that there would come a time in the years to come where doctors and specialists could do no more for him. Dean’s heart and body does not respond well to anaesthetic so further operations would put him at high risk. They are in the process of putting together a palliative care package in order to enhance Dean’s quality of life in the time he has left, however long that may be.Which brings me on to Dean’s List... I sat down with him a few days ago and created a bucket list of all the things he would like to do, places he would like to visit and people he would like to meet. His wishes range from a trip to the beach or being a postman for the day to watching an Arsenal game and visiting Mickey Mouse in Disney. As a family we want Dean to experience life to the fullest and although we can meet some of his list creatively we are aware that funding will come into play along the way.If you can help in any way, no matter how small you will play a part in making Dean’s wishes come true and make memories that will stay with us forever.
