Help us train new women speakers

We're on a mission to see more diverse speakers on stage. Help us train more women and gender nonbinary folks to craft their first talk and deliver it with confidence.

At Women Talk Design , we're elevating the best talks about design from women, training new speakers, connecting speakers in an online community to share advice, speaking engagement opportunities, etc. and empowering event organizers with tools, approaches, and information to create more inclusive events.

We've developed a 2-day training to guide new speakers in crafting a compelling talk and delivering with confidence. Attendees walk away from the workshop with a framework for crafting a great talk, a draft of a 5 min talk and resources on how to expand it depending on the length of the talk, a professional headshot, a video of a 5-minute speaking example, and resources for continued learning.

We offered these workshops in San Francisco and Boston to date and have received extremely positive feedback:

“The training is very helpful to a talk noob, who has little experience in conference talk before, and I got a lot of practical tools to start my first talk!”

“Women Talk Design offers an amazing opportunity to help you look at your own stories through a different lens and pull out the pieces that make a great talk. Highly recommend!”

Each donation helps fund the operational costs of future workshops, as well as scholarships for individuals who cannot afford the tuition.

Support us in getting more diverse speakers on stage, by helping us train new women and nonbinary speakers to craft their first talk and deliver with confidence.

We’ll share updates with those who donate and subscribe.

Hello wonderful GoFundMe donors - I apologize it has been so long since we've shared an update!

Thank you for supporting Women Talk Design. The funds from this campaign are going directly to scholarships for women and non-binary people to attend our 2-day speaker training "Present Yourself: Craft Your First Talk and Deliver with Confidence".

With your donation, combined with some additional outside funds, we have been able to offer 5 scholarships (both partial and full) to women to attend the workshop in San Francisco.

Here are some things our participants shared about the workshop:

"This workshop has gotten me exponentially closer to a goal I have had for nearly a decade. I can't believe I am walking away with a solid concept, outline, headshot and new community of support. Thanks"

"I didn't think writing a compelling talk in 2 days would be possible, yet WTD helped me not only do that, but also helped me build the confidence to present it."

"A great immersive experience. This session was an excellent lab for me to workshop by speaking ideas and speaking skills"

If you ever have any questions or want to talk more about the work we are doing, please reach out.

Our next speaker training is 3/10 - 3/11 in San Francisco and we are continuing to offer full and partial scholarships to those who need it in order to attend.

Thank you for your continued support!

Hello GoFundMe donors,

We're excited to share that we had a fantastic first speaking workshop in San Francisco, Nov. 4th - 5th. Thank you for nominating individuals to attend.

Thirteen women, with 1 - 10 years of professional experience, working as Researchers, Product and Content Strategists, Product and UX Designers, participated. Christina Wodtke led and coached the group through building and delivering their talk, and Eleanor Reinholdt shared acting tips on how to prepare themselves to be on stage. Our attendees are receiving video recordings of their talks, as well as professional headshots.

The workshop received a 100 NPS! Here are some of our favorite quotes from the feedback survey:

"Women Talk Design offers an amazing opportunity to help you look at your own stories through a different lens and pull out the pieces that make a great talk. Highly recommend!"

"Aside from understanding the anatomy of giving a talk, talking to peers and getting their insights on my talk and ideas was immensely valuable. The actual act of creating the talk rather than just learning how to do it was key."

"The training is very helpful to a talk noob, who has little experience in conference talk before, and I got a lot of practical tools to start my first talk!"

I encourage you to check out our facebook page to see some photos from the event. And if you want to give our page a like while you're at it, we'd certainly appreciate that: http://bit.ly/wtdfbphotos

Next Event:

We have another event coming up in San Francisco on December 6th. It's an opportunity for our workshop attendees, and other speakers, to practice their talks in front of a supportive audience. We'd love to see those of you (and your friends!) in the Bay area there! Here's the link to RSVP: wtdlightningtalks.eventbrite.com

Continued Support of WTD:

Does your company have some extra budget to spend before the year? We'd love to talk to you about sponsorship opportunities! We'll also begin to offer private speaking trainings in the new year, so if this is something your organization might be interested, please reach out. Finally, we have this ongoing GoFundMe campaign for continued financial support of the organization.

Here are some other ways to continue to support Women Talk Design:
>> Nominate speakers/content for the website
>> Contribute to our blog as a speaker, or organizer. Email us for more info.
>> Women Speakers - join our private facebook group and help share resources, speaking opportunities, etc.
>> Spread the word about WTD - twitter, facebook, blog, email, or any via any other creative means you can think of.
>>Introduce us to others - speakers, event organizers, other organizations working towards a similar mission with whom we can collaborate, companies who might want to support WTD. We love meeting others aligned with our mission, learning from them, and exploring how we can collaborate!

As always, if you have any questions, feedback, ideas, requests on how you can get involved, etc. please reach out.

To our friends in the US (and who celebrate from afar), have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

We are thankful for all of your generosity!

Hello GoFundMe donors!

We're excited to share that our first Women Talk Design speaker workshop will be in San Francisco this November 4th - 5th.

"Present Yourself: Craft Your First Talk and Deliver with Confidence" will provide attendees with the tools and practice to craft and deliver their first 5-minute, public talk.

Thanks to your support, and the help of generous volunteers, we are able to make this happen! If you are in the Bay area, and are interested in helping out that weekend, please let us know.

We are asking for a small fee from attendees, that will cover lunch, and secure the commitment to attend. Anyone who needs a scholarship can apply, and anyone who can give more is encouraged to donate to help run future subsidized workshops.

We'll be keeping this first workshop small, and we'd love to give our GoFundMe donors the first chance to nominate someone to attend!

Do you know of a women designer in the Bay area, who has a unique perspective to share, and could benefit from a workshop helping her craft her first talk?

If so, please send her a note with this application link: http://bit.ly/womentalkdesignworkshop.

If you'd like us to invite someone directly, you can also send me the name and contact info and I will reach out.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Thank you!
