Raelynn and Alex are a beautiful couple at the heart of their North Park community. Together, they are raising two wonderful children, Beau (12) and Audrey (10). Raelynn is a beloved public school teacher, and Alex, retired after 24 years in the navy, now works as a cyber security professional. They are truly two of the most lovely, energetic, optimistic, and generous people imaginable. Their friends and neighbors are still reeling from the news that in March of 2025, Alex was diagnosed with Stage IV mucosal melanoma. As if this wasn’t devastating enough, Raelynn was then diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in June. 
 
 
 The challenges they face are overwhelming. Raelynn began chemotherapy and radiation, but her journey became even more difficult when she developed transverse myelitis, leaving her wheelchair bound. Alex is also enduring severe side effects from his immunotherapy treatment and is in constant pain. With neither Raelynn nor Alex able to work, the medical bills are quickly mounting and they could use help covering daily living expenses and the support services they now urgently need. 
 
 
 This fundraiser is a way for friends, family, and the wider community to rally around Raelynn, Alex, and their children. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help ease their financial burden and allow them to focus on what matters most—being together and getting through this unimaginable time. Introducing Isaiah To those of you who don’t know Isaiah Goodman already, let me introduce him to you. He has compromised limbs and a weakened immune system because he has Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy.  He is five going on six, and like many kids his age he loves drawing and painting, watching Sesame Street, reading books with his parents Nadia and Matthew, wrestling with his big brother Selah, and learning dance.    <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/50406212_1598468451144800_r.jpeg" alt="50406212_1598468451144800_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> Unlike a lot of other five going on six year-olds, he needs extra equipment to do the things he loves and get around. He uses a wheelchair and the only way he and his family can travel is in a customized wheelchair accessible van. The van requires retrofitting to create a rear-entry so Isaiah's wheelchair can fit in the back. Currently, Isaiah and his family have to depend on hiring Accessible Lyfts to bring Isaiah to places near their home. However, this is not sustainable as a long term solution. To make transportation fully accessible to the Goodmans, they need their own vehicle.  <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/50406212_1599952758766260_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="50406212_1599952758766260_r.jpeg" /> This need has been compounded by the pandemic. Isaiah is at high-risk for illness, and therefore impossible for the Goodmans to travel any other way than by van.   Thus, I have started this GoFundMe as a way to lean on the community and help raise the funds for this wheelchair accessible family van. Introducing The Goodmans I would like to share with you why I care so much about Isiah and his family. She is a phenomenal parent to Isaiah and Selah , and her perseverance through difficult times is beyond admirable. For Nadia, this van means being able to get Isaiah to appointments, and being able to do things as a family without having to travel on foot. Matthew, a published fiction author, poet, and high school English teacher, is as sensitive and funny as a person can be, and his love for, and commitment to his family is evident in all he does.  For Matthew this van means being able to take his family on the adventures he loves to dream up for them, as well as the more practical uses. As for Selah, Isaiah’s big brother, he is a fifth grader at Bank Street this year and loves to read to Isaiah. He is the most caring and funny big brother a 6 year old could ask for. When I talked with him about what getting this van mean to him he said that he would actually be able to sit next to his brother in the back of the car, and play with, and tease him. Accessible Transportation for Isaiah

This fundraiser is really the story of a family.  Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Mike and Jess Anderson, along with their 5 daughters are now in significant hardship.  Please <a href="https://www.nbcsandiego.com/videos/salon-owners-waiting-to-receive-reopen-green-light/2323462/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">click here</a>  or see the link below for their news story on NBC San Diego.  For years Mike and Jess have poured their heart and soul into creating and operating the beautifully inspired Salvage Salon in North Park, San Diego.  The atmosphere of their salon is a reflection of the truly generous people they are.  They "strive to be genuine and grateful people who believe in serving the people of our community well."  And that's exactly what they have been doing for the past 6 years at Salvage Salon.  The current COVID crisis has critically impacted their business and placed the Anderson family in jeopardy.  After just completing a large expansion on the salon, finances were tight, but they were poised to do well with the added capacity.  That’s when COVID-19 hit.  Though they have tried repeatedly, they have not received or qualified for any of the funding meant to help small businesses.  Due to the total shutdown, Mike and Jess have not been able to keep their business afloat or make their rents.  They have also chosen not to charge their stylists the monthly booth rent knowing that they too are in financial duress.  This leaves Mike and Jess with the entire rent amount each month.  While other businesses may soon be able to open at least partially, this is not the case for the salon industry with the proposed opening still months away.  By the time they are able to open to any significant capacity, the mountain of rent debt is likely to be too much to overcome.  Since the shutdown began, they are already behind $36,900.  To make challenging times even more complicated, the Anderson family are being mandated to move from their home of 7 years due to the unforeseen passing of their friend and landlord.  This was completely unexpected.  While they are able to stay for the time being due to the virus, they will have to face the task of finding and moving to a new home for a family of seven all while carrying this huge financial burden.  This move is going to prove especially difficult as Mike has been dealing with the onset of some serious health issues that bring him to the point of exhaustion after even the slightest physical exertion.  He needs to continue treatment, but due to the loss of all income, Mike has had to choose between seeing the neurologist and providing basic necessities for his family.  The Andersons need our prayers, and our help.  Mike and Jess understand their story isn't completely unique during this time, but for us, the Anderson family are our friends. . . and we know they are friends to a great many.  Please consider joining us in supporting them.  Our San Diego community will be the better for it!  The goal amount of this fundraiser is meant to cover their combined rents and business costs (April - August), and a very modest income to help meet the family's needs.  And if we are able to surpass our goal amount, Mike and Jess will be looking for ways they can pass on the blessing and help the numerous stylists that call Salvage Salon home.  By helping the Andersons we can potentially help a whole community in need. After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer and cancer-related illnesses, our beloved  friend Jason Zdunich passed away on Monday June 10th, 2019.  Jason lived his life in service of others as a member of our military and as a police officer in our community for 15 years.  He leaves behind his wife of 10 years, Danielle, and his young sons Logan (8) and Connor (6). Their family has incurred significant healthcare-related expenses during these times and now Danielle and the boys could use your help again.
