Hi, my name is Havana and I am 7 years old. <br />When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut, POTUS, and an artist. <br /><br />Since I was born, I have been traveling the world with my diplomat family. I currently live in Washington DC. I am really excited to continue learning more about space on my journey to becoming an astronaut when I grow up. This would be a dream come true for me! <br /><br />But to make this dream into a reality, I need your help. The Tiny Diplomat Goes To Space Camp

Hello everyone, <br /><br />Thanks to so many generous people donating to our previous GoFundMe campaigns, we have been able to support and champion girls all over the world. <br /><br />Havana’s <a href="rhymers-are-readers">Rhymers are Readers #37books</a> and Taylor’s <a href="http://www.gofundme.com/astronaut-starbright-fund">Wrinkle in Time movie and book drive</a> were started because we know that education is the most powerful weapon in the world. <strong>We know as Black girls that we are capable, powerful, and unstoppable. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/42439358_1570026990276722_r.jpeg" alt="42439358_1570026990276722_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /></strong>We both want to be astronauts when we grow up and having a good education is a big part of that dream. <strong>However, our dreams are not just about us. Every girl around the world has the basic human right to an education. <br /><br /></strong>Last year, we traveled to Ghana to meet 17 amazing girls at the St. Bakhita Orphanage in Ghana. Girl’s Education in Ghana

This past summer, Taylor Richardson <i>(</i><a href="http://www.twitter.com/astrostarbright" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><i>Astronaut StarBright</i></a><i> )</i> and I <i>(</i><a href="http://www.twitter.com/thetinydiplomat" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><i>The Tiny Diplomat</i></a><i>)</i> worked together and raised funds to travel to Ghana and meet 17 amazing girls at the St. Bakhita orphanage. By <a href="https://www.biracialbookworms.com/girls-education-ghana/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">raising $25,000 as well as generous doantions from female led organizations</a> , we were able to donate books, school supplies, toiletries, clothes, and did a screening of  Disney and Ava DuVernay's <a target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">A Wrinkle in Time</a> . <br /><br />Most importantly, we got to hang out with the girls in their home, dance, play, and learn more about what these girls see in their future. <strong>These 17 girls are studying and working hard to make an impact in their community in Ghana, and we want to show them that we believe in them. </strong>These 17 girls are role models, leaders, and our friends. <br /><br /><img class="not-resizeable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/34813786_1543258137306551_r.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" />￼￼<img class="not-resizeable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/34813786_1543258181478360_r.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" />￼￼￼<br />One of the biggest obstacles these girl are facing  is the lack of access to education all year round. St. Bakhita Orphanage

My friend Mari Copeny (<a href="http://www.twitter.com/LittleMissFlint" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@LittleMissFlint</a>) and I have joined together this holiday season to bring Black Girl Ballerina Magic to Flint, MI.<br /><br />Since Mari and I both love to dance, we LOVE seeing Misty Copeland, the first African American prima ballerina at the American Ballet Association, featured in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXfxLIuNJvw" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Nutcracker and the Four Realms</a> movie. Black Girl Ballerina Magic

My name is Havana and as many of you know, I previously raised over $6000 to buy books for the kids in my choir/book club "Rhymers are Readers #37books." <br /><br /><img class="not-resizeable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/31588212_1532448284727258_r.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" />￼￼<br />I also had the opportunity to travel all the way to Ghana with Taylor Richardson "Astronaut StarBright" to deliver books and school supplies to the 17 girls at the St. Bakhita Orphanage. <br /><br /><img class="not-resizeable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/31588212_1532447769504140_r.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" />￼￼<br />Now, I want to do the same for the kids in my own community. Hello everyone,<br /><br /><br />As you know already, COVID-19 is having a terrible impact on families and communities across the country and around the world.<br /><br /><br />When times are hard, there are always kind helpers who step up and take again. For example, adults like Fred Joseph’s  and The Conscious Kid’s  #RENTRELIEF GoFundMe campaigns have raised nearly a half a million dollars to families are hurting, can’t make rent, can’t afford their bills to keep the lights on, and can’t afford groceries. <br /><br />However, Parker and I know that kids need help right now too and the biggest issue is that school is closed.<br /><br />That means kids are not having access to the education they need, and that is why we are launching <strong>#readingisessential. <br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/47851902_1588621915333983_r.jpeg" alt="47851902_1588621915333983_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br /></strong><span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">We partnered with </span><a style="font-size:1.0625rem;" href="https://now.givingtuesday.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Giving Tuesday Kids</a><span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">  for </span><strong style="font-size:1.0625rem;">#GivingTuesdayNow</strong><span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">, a global day of giving and unity on May 5, 2020, an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19 to send books to as many children as we can who need them. </span><strong><br /></strong><br />What our<strong> #readingisessential </strong>campaign will do: <br /><br />1. COVID19 #ReadingIsEssential

<strong>My name is Havana and I am 7 years old.  I am raising money to buy books for other children who look like me! Reading is so important and I want to make sure everyone has the same opportunities to learn, grow, and change the world.</strong> <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/27741198_1524841796.8141_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br />Scholastic did a study this year that shows <strong>black and brown children have 37 fewer books in their homes</strong> than white children. They also found that only 18% of African American 4th graders are proficient readers. I want to help change that.<br /><br />My original goal was to help all 12 of my choir friends to feel confident in their reading ability and to see kids who look like them in the books they read. Every month, I am going to host a book club and read aloud a book about an amazing female black role model. Girls and boys need to see strong black females in their books. I call these women and girls “sheroes".<br /><br />Thanks to all of you, I was able to give each one of my choir friends 37 books! I even partnered with our local bookstore, <a href="https://www.mahoganybooks.com/about-us/" target="_blank">Mahogany Books</a>, a Black-owned business in Southeast Washington D.C. to purchase the books. Now all of my friends also have the ability to read at home like their classmates and can learn to read and travel the world through the pages of our books!<br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/27741198_1524841811.0645_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><strong>But I don’t want to stop here. I’m teaming up with my friend Taylor Richardson, aka <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/astronaut-starbright-fund" target="_blank"><strong>Astronaut StarBright</strong></a>, to take books all the way to Ghana this summer.</strong> With the support of Oprah, Chris Pine, GMA, and hundreds of others, Taylor has sent over 1,000 girls all over the United States to see A Wrinkle in Time. Now she wants to help me bring books to girls all over the world too!<br /><br />My godmother and one of my greatest STEM role models, <a href="https://www.biracialbookworms.com/raising-global-citizens-shero-series-healthcare/" target="_blank">LaSheena Washington</a>, volunteers at a local orphanage clinic in Accra, Ghana where there are 17 young Ghanaian girls, ages 3-17. Taylor and I are working to raise money so we can hand deliver books and DVDs of A Wrinkle in Time movie each of these beautiful girls.<br /><br />These girls need books so that they can take pride in who they are and know that they are more than capable of being anything they put their minds to. We also want to show them that they too have #blackgirlmagic inside of them.<br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/27741198_1524842274.7209_funddescription.png" alt="" width="100%" /><br />Here is where you come in!<strong> We need your help to raise enough money for us to buy books and bring them to the girls in Ghana. I think being able to give them the books in person will be really special. </strong><br /><strong>We need to raise $15,000 by June 15th</strong> to pay for the books as well as flights for Taylor and I (and our Moms too), a hotel, the Visas and shots we need to travel to Ghana, and other miscellaneous travel expenses. Any extra money we raise will go towards giving books to children of needy families in the Jacksonville and Washington DC communities where we live. <br /><br />Every donation makes a difference and by supporting this project, you are helping to make sure that black children have a fair chance at academic success. <div>I am student in Kailua, Hawai'i on the island of Oahu, and our Girls Have Rights non-profit team is collaborating with our <a href="https://www.bgch.com/windward/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Boys and Girls Club- Windward Clubhouse</a> to raise funds to take 100 members to see the movie <strong>Moana 2 on December 14th, 2024</strong>.

<div>I am a paddler for Lanikai Canoe Club and seeing a character like Moana with her paddle, her lei po'o, pet chicken HeiHei, and yelling cheehoo for the world to see is so important for so many keiki (youth) on our island.

<div>In the past 10 years through my movie challenges, <strong>I have raised nearly $200,000 to advocate for young kids</strong>, especially young girls, to see a hero that looks like them, showing that they too can overcome obstacles and shape their own futures.

<div>Our amazing Girls Have Rights team chose this project for <a href="https://www.givingtuesday.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Giving Tuesday</a> because it is meaningful and critical to celebrate Polynesian culture through representation on the big screen. Additionally, the Moana movie continues the legacy of empowering girls to dream even bigger than they think possible.

<div>We will be taking Boys and Girls Club members to see the movie at Kailua Theaters, so the money raised will go towards movie tickets and transportation.

<div>In case you haven’t heard, Girls Have Rights is a youth led global non-profit that aims to eliminate obstacles and barriers so girls have access to their basic human rights. <div>One of our goals for Girls Have Rights is to make it more attainable for girls to reach their STEM goals. Not only do we want to encourage girls in pursuing STEM careers, we want to help ensure critical resources are available so that there is more equity in education. <div>This is why our goal by Giving Tuesday on November 30th is to raise $2500 to donate STEM resources as gifts to girls in communities all over the United States, refugee children from Afghanistan, Somalia, Iran, and Syria who live in Germany, as well as to the 17 girls at the St. Bahkita orphanage in Ghana we have supported for over 4 years now.
