With always a huge smile on her face, Karen ‘Kazza’ Durante lights up every room she walks into. A mother of two, sister of four and loved daughter of Helen who she dedicates so much time to look after. Passionate in caring for others, Karen was an Autistic children’s teachers’ aid by profession. This remarkable woman who has dedicated her life to help others now needs your help to fight the biggest battle of her life.
In April 2015 Karen was struck with the most aggressive form of brain cancer, Glioblastoma on the left side of her brain. After two surgeries which has led to impaired speech and memory loss plus intense treatment including chemo, radiation and clinical trials, unfortunately the tumor is still growing rapidly. Exhausting all avenues and being informed that there was no further solution to save her life, the Durante family were devastated.
Fortunately they have been given new hope – Karen has now been offered the opportunity to have surgery again to remove the tumor by leading neurosurgeon Charlie Teo in Sydney. Charlie has spent decades performing radical surgery on brain tumors that other neurosurgeons consider inoperable. However, this surgery needs to be performed immediately and the medical expense of the surgery, oncology and continued treatment are enormous!
