Hello GoFunders! I am Master Brian Morágne, owner and founder of the Freestyle Martial Arts Academy located in Galloway, NJ. I've had the privilege and honor of not only teaching the many youth and adults Martial Arts, but how to also have a positive mindset and a healthy body which leads ultimately to spiritual growth.
A little about myself:
I grew up disadvantaged in Camden, NJ. I then moved to Atlantic City, NJ where I faced more of the same poverty, starvation and homelessness. At the age of 12, I met a local Karate Master who introduced me to the Martial Arts. Determined to not be a product of a negative environment, I became addicted to the Martial Arts by way of a full scholarship given to me by my new found Karate teacher . Martial Arts kept me grounded. It kept me off the streets and held me accountable for my actions. It helped me deal with my teenage emotional stress and much more. Today, I am proud to say that I've successfully run my own Martial Arts facility for the past 20 years with a mission to help other people, not just at risk youth, but men, women and children of all ages learn the Martial Arts.
What is Project Front Kick?
Project Front Kick was started by me 15 years ago as an in-house non profit discount program which helped people pay for their Martial Arts classes through subsidized income that I took from my own company profit. Many of which were given scholarships by me personally for a full tuition free membership. Due to the rising costs of running my facility (rent and utilities) it's gotten a lot harder to give back to the community that I love to serve, through Project Front Kick. I've enjoyed being a part of something much bigger than I am. We've enjoyed trips, summer camp, sleep overs and much more. Seeing the youth (who are now adults) come back over the years to give me a simple thank you and a hug is not only awe inspiring, but refreshes my spirit and reminds me to stay on the course of changing lives through the Martial Arts.
Who can partner with Project Front Kick?
Project Front Kick is for any Martial Arts facility that has a need to serve the greater good. There's always one kid or family that can't afford to train anymore do to income changes. Project Front Kick makes it possible for the training to continue. We pay the Martial Arts school the difference of the amount which the student cannot afford.
For example:
Tommy wants to do karate at the local karate school in his neighborhood. The karate fee is $150 down and $150 per month. The uniform is $75. This comes to a grand total of $375 to be paid upfront by his mom. His mom works off of a single income and cannot pay the full amount plus the next month's dues. The Martial Arts School contacts Project Front Kick, and we negotiate a price that she can work with based on what she can afford. Through our donations, Project Front Kick pays the difference to the Karate school, and even buys the uniform for Tommy.
So you see, it's a win - win situation. Tommy has karate which will keep him off the streets and in a healthy mindset, his mom is able to afford his classes, the Martial Arts school gains a new student that they would not have had otherwise and Project Front Kick continues its mission to subsidize Martial Arts lessons to make it affordable for those in need.
What we need:
For Project Front Kick to survive, I am asking for donations that will help me continue my mission of serving the many men, women and children who desperately need help to continue their training. The future of Project Front Kick will have its own stand alone Martial Arts building equipped with an after school van, computer/homework room and after care for those parents who need the extra help due to work hours.
