Study Abroad in India

Hello! My name is T.Jay Burbage. I am an athletic training major (with a pre-med focus) at Wilmington College, a small, liberal arts college in southwest Ohio. Wilmington’s motto is “Hands-On Learning. Hands-On Living,” and what this college has done for me has far exceeded that standard. Through my studies in athletic training, I have had the opportunity to work with various different sports and their athletes at both the high school and collegiate levels. I have been able to attend and interact in two bio-skills cadaver labs. And as a senior, I will even get to team-up with the head athletic trainer and have co-responsibility of our school’s baseball team’s injuries and rehabilitation. Along this journey I have met and become very close with many of the faculty and staff. These people try their hardest to help me succeed in the classroom and in life, and with their knowledge, they have given me opportunities I have never thought possible.

This upcoming fall semester I will be a senior in college and, with the help of one of my professors, I have the opportunity to study medicine in India! Savitha Krishna, my professor in many biological science classes, was born in India and moved to the United States only 12 years ago. She and her husband have been taking students to Ayurveda, India in the winter for years, and here the students are taught the Indian way of life, herbal medicines, yoga, Marma therapy (or acupressure), and so much more!

My desire to seek new adventures and to learn along the way has been fully expressed with this opportunity; however, travelling across the world and staying there for two weeks is a costly aspiration. The initial cost of the trip is $2,200, which includes the cost of the class, room and board, transportation, and entry fees. This expense does not include: International flight tickets, food, personal rides, and any other unknown expenses. My goal for this experience is $4,000, and with the help of kind people like you I can make this a reality. I am very appreciative of your monetary gift toward my education and my future aspirations of becoming a doctor. Thank you so much for your support!
