North Road Sugar Works

Donation protected
Greetings from Vershire, Vermont. I'm Marc McKee, the maple sugar guy at The Mountain School for 25 years.
Now, I have a plan to enlist maple sugar makers to recognize the threat to the future of sugar maple trees if climate change continues in the direction it is moving now. Sugar maple trees need cold winters, and eventually, somewhere in the future, a warmer climate will cause them to die off. No sugar maples=no maple syrup.
North Road Sugar Works is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all funds donated will be used to procure the equipment needed to create an educational, environmental, and community based sugaring operation.
The sugarhouse building is almost finished on North Road in Vershire, Vermont. We hope to have the first boiling in the spring of 2018.
In the educational component, we have sponsored two pancake suppers to date. The first two speakers were John Elder, Professor of English and Environmental Studies at Middlebury College (ret.), and Bill McKibben, author and environmentalist, also at Middlebury. Next spring is undetermined as of yet.
I hate to contemplate a world where maple sugar trees as dying due to climate, and the many technological advances in the industry will not matter if there aren't any sugar maple trees to tap.
This is my baby for the foreseeable future. I hope it will make some difference in the fight for climate health. In the spring, when the sap is running, visitors are encouraged to visit, watch, work, and sample the products. We really need to make the changes for a stable, clean, healthy climate before it too late.
