Ken Kanne isn't just just some face you'd see in a crowd, he'd someone that will certainly impact your life as soon as you meet him. I had the honor to meet and stay with him on my voyage back from California with my shark. He, along with other remember of the CCA community opened their hearts and homes to me, but Ken stuck out. He had nothing lavish to offer, only his contagious smile, huge heart, and a house to sleep in. He opened his home, during an unheard of ice storm in Southern Alabama, and did every thing in his power to be supportive.
After that, we stayed very active in the CCA, Big Coupe forums, and other BMW related sites. Ken was always one of the first to comment with advice, even if it was something personal. An absolute heart of solid gold and encouraging human being. When I lost everything, he was there with encouragement. When I regained everything, he reminded me what it was like when I lost everything.
He selflessly serves whomever he comes into contact with, including his wife, who has been ill for quite some time. He's enthusiastic in his religion and almost as much about the BMW community. The same community I'm reaching out to for some help.
A few months back he was stricken I'll with cancerous tumors in his bladder. Surgery was preformed, and supposedly they were all snagged. Sadly, this wasn't the case and after a few go rounds with chemo and meds, they're still present. The solution is to up the meds and add Interferon, which will jack the price up to almost quadruple a treatment than he's been paying.
Assistance was requested from the American Bladder Cancer Association, however, no assistance is being offered. Even with this discouraging news, he asks how I'm during before ever wanting to talk of himself. I admire him for being so cavalier on the outside, but probably aly falling apart on the inside.
I want to help him, and this is how I'm going to do it. I'm going to see him a "loving quilt", a quilt coming from all of us that care, even if you don't know him personally. You can "spare a square" and buy a square on this healing quilt (you can even suggest what you want your square to look like, within reason. :)). Any donation, little or small, will assist in this amazing man heal. I'd like for him to be able to focus his positive energy on healing instead of how he's going to pay for treatments.
I don't like the idea of just throwing him money, I want to make sure he has something to hold onto, like a hug from an old friend.
