John and Janelle Hein Family

John Hein is a Lutheran pastor in the Minneapolis area, a husband, a father of six, and grandfather of five. He has been experiencing various health ailments for quite some time, chronic pain being the largest offender. He’s undergone several surgeries, seen countless doctors and specialists, with no known cause for the pain. Some blood work done back in October revealed diabetes, anemia, and high inflammation markers. A CT scan was done of John’s chest in order to get a better idea of what might be causing much of his chest, neck, and shoulder pain.

John, his family, and even his doctor were shocked to discover a large tumor on his sternum, eating away at the bone. A biopsy was performed on this malignant tumor and a PET scan showed several other tumors spread throughout his body. John has stage IV Thymic Carcinoma. This is extremely difficult to treat and is considered incurable.

John’s oncologist remains optimistic that aggressive chemotherapy will shrink the primary tumor and give John more time here on this earth. His treatments won’t come without side effects, and the medical costs anticipated for his care are expected to be high. Any amount you may be able to contribute to aid in his journey will make such an impact. More importantly, we ask for your prayers as he and his family navigate this extremely difficult diagnosis. John’s faith has been such a light in this dark time, and his confidence in his Savior unwavering. He and his family are so appreciative of all the prayers and support.
