Janice Acevedo: Recording Arts, & Housing Fund

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Janice Acevedo. I am a 22 year old woman (as of writing this), who is planning on going to the Florida Institute of Recording, Sound, and Technology, this upcoming January, to pursue a career in the recording arts.

I graduated high school in 2015, but have not attended college due to the fact that I wasn't completely sure, at the time, as to what I wanted to do.  The year prior to graduating, I have started a YouTube channel, where I would post fan dubs of comics based off some of my favorite animated shows, and anime.

Here are a few examples of my best work:

Over the past 4-5 years, I have grown to love working, and editing audio for videos. I especially love working with my friends and editing their voices together to create a compelling story, complete with sound effects and music, whether they be for a few minutes, or just for 30 seconds.

Last month, this past January (at the time of writing this), I decided to look into schools that offer anything to do with recording audio, and FIRST Institute was the first, pun unintended, to pop up on my search.

FIRST Institute is the Florida Institute of Recording, Sound, and Technology, and is actually a vocational school. They offer 3 different programs:
Recording Arts and Show Production

Digital Filmmaking and Video Production

Graphic Design and Web Development

All 3 of these programs I do happen to have some experience with, beit I've been making video dub productions on YouTube for about 4-5 years, and I have made my very own website, in the past (although, it is  now, to me, considered, pretty mediocre, in my opinion).

The program that I am pursuing is the Recording Arts and Show Production program, but I would also love to do the other two programs, as well, and what's great is that the tuition is less than $20K; all 3 programs are less that $20K and each program is only 8-11 months.

Now, I know what you're thinking, "But Janice, if the program you're going for only costs you less that $20K, why are you raising money for $100K?"

Well, that's an easy answer: Housing.

You see, FIRST Institute is in Orlando, which I live about an hour and a half to two hours away... and given the traffic, that'll be about another 30 minutes on top of that, so might as well be two and half hours. Considering that classes would be 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday, it would be a pain driving two to two and half hours to and from the school.

I believe that it would be much easier to live in Orlando near the institute, but of course that costs money as well. Rent, not mention the light, water, electricity, and all that good stuff.

So, yes, this fund is not only for my education, but housing as well. If I could find a place where the rent is about $1K, maybe $1.5K a month, and is also close by to the school, I believe I will be able to manage just fine.

There's also scholarships that I've been filling out LIKE CRAZY as well, but with those things, there's no guarantee, how many I'll get, if any. So, I suppose this you can say is my backup plan.

Please consider supporting me, or at the very least, spreading the word. I really would like to go to this school and pursue a career in what I love doing.  I hope to raise enough money by mid-December, so I can immediately start in January 2020.

I appreciate all of your help <3

Sincerely,
Janice A.
