Ibrahim VS Cerebral Palsy

Don protégé
Ibrahim’s Story

Born at 32 weeks in November of 2015. Ibrahim was ready to make an early entrance due to an unexpected emergency. He spent the first three weeks of his life in the NICU at the Brampton civic hospital. Ibrahim fought hard each day overcoming the odds and surprising us. As Ibrahim got older we were noticing that Ibrahim was not developmentally on track with children his age.  We were eager to discuss his progress with his neurologist and put an end to the concerns. We had an MRI done.

I still remember the day I came home from the doctor’s office and was told that Ibrahim has brain damage (PVL). My world had been turned upside down. I was crying like there was no tomorrow. I would find myself asking questions such as why does my son have cerebral palsy? For a few nights when everyone would be asleep I would be crying and crying.  I did not know why this was happening to me. I did not know how we were going to handle it.  Mostly, I was afraid of all the questions people were about to ask me.  To be honest, it took me a while to become solid rock, however even now there are days where I breakdown.  Although it is not easy, I get right back up and think of the bright future. God only gives us how much we can handle. I am so grateful for the blessings he has bestowed upon us. Ibrahim is a true blessing in disguise. We asked for a fighter and that's exactly what we got .Ibrahim is simply just a happy guy! From his amazing personality and sense of humour, he has touched the hearts and lives of many who surround him. He is spoiled and is able to get away with anything. He knows its unconditional love. Ibrahim has been through so much in his 2 years of life.

Ibrahim loves music and I mean he loves music. He has a certain taste, one that brings him satisfaction. Apart from that he loves playing with his favourite cars. He currently attends Physiotherapy/conductive education to strengthen his muscles and core. Exercise is part of our daily routine and Ibrahim dedicates his concentration to his workouts. Recently Ibrahim started crawling on four point.  Our journey to walk continues.
Cerebral palsy is a condition that affects muscle control and movement. It affects his legs & makes it impossible for him to walk independently. There is no cure for CP but there are medical interventions to help treat it.  SDR will permanently reduce the spasticity in his legs. Dr. Park says the optimal age for SDR is at age 2-3. Our goal is to make him as independent as possible and we believe that this operation will do this.

*Early surgery prevents or reduces deformities and decreases a chance of orthopaedic surgery. There is no known benefit to spasticity in CP.

*Early SDR frees children from spasticity and facilitate
their motor developments

*The young children often become independent walkers shortly after SDR

*There is no scientific rationale for delayed SDR after 4-6 years

Why we need your help

My name is Anum, and we are from Brampton, ON Canada . we are raising money for my Son Ibrahim. SDR is currently not Funded in Ontario also OHIP does not  cover this Surgery for such a young age.

Dr.Park has Over 29 years experience performing selective dorsal rhizotomies with unequalled knowledge of post-surgical outcomes.

Performed over 3,400 surgeries on children and adults from 47 states and 70 countries.

Published over 40 scientific articles on rhizotomy.

Dr.park states that Early selective dorsal rhizotomy, at 2-4 years of age, can prevent the development of deformities. For this reason, we favor early surgery. Also, SDR will reduce deformities and makes it easier to treat deformities later with orthopedic surgery.

We feel comfortable with Dr.park preforming his surgery.

We will apply for SDR on Nov 11th (Ibrahims Birthday)
Our fundraising effort is for the cost of SDR surgery at St. Louis hospital, orthotics, Pre and Post intensive Physiotherapy. Ibrahim will be required to do physiotherapy 5 days a week before and after the surgery but he is an amazingly strong child and we know he will do great! With help from family, friends and strangers we need to raise $140,000 to make this Happen. We intend to fund as much as we can ourselves but need your help raising the rest.

We would be so grateful for any support to help Ibrahim to gain the quality of life he deserves.
