Gavin's Squad
Please help Gavin, he is a 5 years old and was diagnosed with B-lymphoblastic leukemia on August 13th 2015. He has wonderful parents, a 3 year old brother and twin sister and brother who were just born on the July 24th, 2015.
On June 29th he started to complain of knee/leg pain after playing and jumping off the caboose. His parents took him to the doctor where he received pain relief medication and they did an x-ray that did not show anything to be concerned about. Gavin continued to complain for several weeks of continued and persistent leg pain, avoiding all physical activities, in exchange for a heating pad on the couch. He even opted out of swimming lessons.
July 14th 2015 Gavin went back to the doctor after a week of no school and sleepless nights due to constant pain. Standing, walking, and sleeping all hurt. A second trip July 22nd 2015 resulted in an orthopedic referral, whom they saw on August 6th, 2015 where they were referred to an infectious disease diagnostic doctor at a hospital in St. Louis.
They arrived to Gavin's appointment at 9:48 am on August 12th and by 1pm is when he was diagnosed. He had bone marrow taken, was admitted, and once the diagnosis was confirmed, treatment was discussed. He received his port that afternoon, which mad him happy because he knew it meant no more blood draws!
Gavin has remained in the hospital since this day and has been receiving chemo. The hospital is 2 1/2 hours from their home and the patents have to travel back and forth, with one parent typically staying at home as they have newborn twins and a 3 year old. Help with all the cost involved would be greatly appreciated. They will have travel, food and medical costs. This is a wonderful family.
