I am asking for donations to help me fight against a pending 1,250 dollar charge for a noise disturbance issued by EMPD after providing sound for a protest in El Monte against police brutality. This has a been a great year for DJ'ing and I am always willing to provide sound and music for events promoting a just, educational or righteous cause.
Ultimately in August I was threatened of arrest, detained, searched and as a group were harrassed and threatened of equipment confiscation, all during a peaceful all ages protest. At one point during detainment officer Tate told me, "You thought you were a big man huh?"and "You think you know the law?". These are two main examples of the officer's actions which led me to feel the situation was handled unprofessionaly and with bias. At the end I was not arrested but charged with a 1,000 fine for "Noise Disturbance".
I submitted paperwork to have the citation reviewed feeling I should have received a warning, or 50 dollar minimum charge(1000 is supposed to be maximum charge only when showing to be a public of officer safety issue). After following up on the paperwork I was told that is was not found in the system, then told I would be called back by a department supervisor but shortly after received a deliquent notice increasing the fine by 250 dollars. Because the deadline is approaching I have decided to receive help from attorney Tarek Shawky who continously offers help for cases involving police misconduct and protests. This donation will help cover the cost and time involving this case and I would like to ask for your support in my decision to help fund this case opposed to paying any fines or providing any funding toward the police department.
